Description
The GSG 922 22 LR Compact Pistol is a compact, 1911-inspired rimfire handgun chambered in 22 LR with a 3.4-inch barrel and a 10-round magazine. This compliant configuration is built for states with strict handgun rosters, giving shooters there an affordable, low-recoil pistol for training and plinking.
GSG 922 22 LR Compact Pistol Overview
GSG (German Sport Guns) is best known for its 22 LR versions of famous centerfire designs, imported to the United States by American Tactical. The 922 takes the controls and feel of a compact 1911 and scales it to rimfire, so new shooters can learn grip, trigger control, and safety manipulation on a gun that is cheap to feed and easy to shoot. Experienced 1911 owners use it as an inexpensive understudy for practice. This version is built for California and other strict roster states, which require specific features on handguns sold there.
Blowback Action and Trigger
The pistol uses a simple straight blowback action, which is reliable with standard high-velocity 22 LR ammunition. The single-action trigger has a short pull typical of 1911-style guns. Like most rimfire pistols, it can be picky with ammunition, so try a few brands and stick with the one that feeds best. Avoid subsonic or very low-powered target loads, which may not cycle the slide fully.
Frame, Slide and Controls
The frame is cast from a zinc alloy called Zamak-5 and finished in black, with a beavertail grip safety area and a Picatinny rail for a light or laser. The slide is serrated for a positive grip during manipulation, and the ambidextrous thumb safety works for right- and left-handed shooters. A zinc alloy frame keeps cost down but will not last as long as a steel or aluminum frame under very high round counts, so treat it as a trainer and range gun rather than a lifetime heavy-use pistol.
Compact Size
At about 7 inches long and roughly 32 ounces, the pistol is small enough for smaller hands yet has enough weight to keep 22 LR recoil almost unnoticeable. The double-diamond style polymer grip panels give a classic look with a secure hold.
Sights
Fixed sights give a simple, clear sight picture for informal target shooting at typical handgun distances. There is no optic cut, and the barrel is not threaded.
Magazine and Capacity
The pistol ships with one 10-round magazine, a capacity that fits magazine laws in most restrictive states. Buy spare magazines made for this specific model, since compact rimfire magazines are not always interchangeable with full-size versions.
Care and Maintenance
Rimfire ammunition is dirty, so clean the breech face, chamber, and extractor regularly to prevent malfunctions. A light coat of oil on the slide rails keeps it running smoothly.
State Laws
This compliant version was built for strict roster states, but rules change and vary by locality. Check your local regulations, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm it is legal where you live.
