Grizzly 10mm 180gr JHP – Powerful Defense Ammo

Description

The Grizzly 10mm 180gr JHP load, item GC10M4, is a 20 round box of 10mm Auto ammunition from Grizzly Cartridge Company, loaded with a 180 grain jacketed hollow point bullet rated at 1350 fps with 728 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Grizzly recommends it for self defense and shooting.

Grizzly 10mm 180gr JHP Overview

This is a full-power 10mm load in the tradition the cartridge was designed for. Grizzly drives a 180 grain jacketed hollow point to a rated 1350 fps for 728 foot-pounds of energy, numbers well above most factory 10mm loads that are downloaded closer to 40 S&W levels. The result is a full-power 10mm round that suits personal defense, hog hunting at close range and general woods carry where a hollow point is preferred. Shooters who bought a 10mm to get real 10mm performance will appreciate the difference.

Bullet Design

A jacketed hollow point opens up on impact, increasing its frontal area and transferring energy to the target while limiting over-penetration compared with solid bullets. Grizzly loads its JHP rounds for self-defense and general shooting, with a jacket designed to hold together as the bullet expands. Expansion depends on impact speed, so the velocity of your particular firearm matters.

Intended Use

Grizzly lists this load for self-defense and shooting. The hollow point is built to expand and deliver energy in the target, which helps limit over-penetration compared with hard flat point bear loads. It is also a practical choice for deer-sized game and hogs at handgun distances, where expansion helps create a larger wound channel. For protection against large bears, Grizzly recommends its heavier Bonebreaker flat point loads instead.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for handguns chambered in 10mm Auto, such as the Glock 20, 29 and 40, the SIG P320 XTEN, Springfield XD-M Elite 10mm, Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 10mm and 1911-pattern pistols in 10mm, plus revolvers and carbines built for the cartridge. Never fire it in a 40 S&W firearm; the 10mm case is longer and runs at higher pressure.

Grizzly Cartridge Company

Grizzly Cartridge Company is an American ammunition maker known for heavy, hard-hitting loads for hunters, outdoorsmen and handgunners who carry in bear country, along with cowboy action, defense and safari ammunition. Its loads are made in the USA, and many are built to run at the upper end of what each cartridge allows, so always match the load to your firearm.

Recoil and Shootability

The 10mm Auto is a powerful semi-auto cartridge, and full-power loads like this produce stout recoil and a sharp report. A full-size, steel or heavier polymer pistol, a firm high grip and regular practice help keep follow-up shots on target.

Practice and Testing

Fire at least a box through your own firearm before you rely on this load for hunting or protection. Confirm reliable feeding and extraction, and check where it prints at the distances you expect to shoot, since heavy or fast loads often hit to a different point than light practice ammunition.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading.
