Grizzly 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP – Powerful Defense Ammo

Description

The Grizzly 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP load, item GC9+P+CM10, is a 20 round box of 9mm Luger +P+ ammunition from Grizzly Cartridge Company, loaded with a 124 grain jacketed hollow point bullet rated at 1375 fps with 521 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Grizzly recommends it for self defense and shooting.

Grizzly 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP Overview

This is one of the hottest 9mm defensive loads Grizzly offers. A 124 grain jacketed hollow point is driven to a rated 1375 fps at +P+ pressure, well above typical standard-pressure 124 grain loads that run around 1100 to 1150 fps. Extra speed helps a hollow point expand reliably, even from shorter barrels, and adds energy at the target. The tradeoff is more recoil and wear, so it is best treated as a carry load rather than practice ammunition.

Bullet Design

A jacketed hollow point opens up on impact, increasing its frontal area and transferring energy to the target while limiting over-penetration compared with solid bullets. Grizzly loads its JHP rounds for self-defense and general shooting, with a jacket designed to hold together as the bullet expands. Expansion depends on impact speed, so the velocity of your particular firearm matters.

Intended Use

Grizzly lists this load for self defense and general shooting. Its main role is a carry or home defense load for shooters who want maximum performance from a 9mm and whose pistol is approved for +P+ ammunition. Many owners practice with standard-pressure ball ammunition and then confirm function and point of impact with a box of this load before carrying it. It is not intended as a hard-target or bear load; for that role Grizzly makes its Bonebreaker flat point loads.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for handguns and pistol-caliber carbines chambered in 9mm Luger, also called 9x19mm Parabellum, such as the Glock 17, 19 and 43X, the SIG Sauer P365 and P320, the Smith and Wesson M&P 9 and Shield, the Springfield Hellcat and the Canik TP9 series. This is a +P+ load. There is no industry pressure standard above +P, so use it only in modern, robust 9mm pistols whose maker approves +P+ ammunition, and avoid high-volume shooting with it.

Grizzly Cartridge Company

Grizzly Cartridge Company is an American ammunition maker known for heavy, hard-hitting loads for hunters, outdoorsmen and handgunners who carry in bear country, along with cowboy action, defense and safari ammunition. Its loads are made in the USA, and many are built to run at the upper end of what each cartridge allows, so always match the load to your firearm.

Recoil and Shootability

The 9mm is one of the easiest defensive calibers to shoot well, but +P+ loads like this one produce noticeably more muzzle flip, blast and flash than standard range ammunition. The difference is most obvious in small, lightweight carry pistols, so practice controlled pairs with the load you carry and confirm your pistol handles it reliably.

Practice and Testing

Fire at least a box through your own firearm before you rely on this load for hunting or protection. Confirm reliable feeding and extraction, and check where it prints at the distances you expect to shoot, since heavy or fast loads often hit to a different point than light practice ammunition.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading.
