Description

Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round striker fired pistol

The Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round is the crossover: a compact G19 slide sitting on a full size G17 frame. That combination sounds like a compromise and is actually the opposite. The shorter slide clears a holster faster and carries better, while the full length grip gives seventeen rounds and a complete firing grip for every hand size. Many agencies that tested it ended up adopting it over both parent guns.

Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round Barrel, Slide and Frame

The 4.02 inch barrel is a Glock Marksman Barrel with the enhanced polygonal rifling and tighter crown introduced on Gen5. Because the slide is compact but the frame is full size, the pistol balances slightly further back than a G17, which most shooters read as faster to bring onto target from the draw and quicker between transitions.

The slide wears Glock’s nDLC surface treatment, a diamond like carbon coating applied to both slide and barrel that resists corrosion and abrasion far better than the older Tenifer process it replaced. Front serrations are cut alongside the rear ones so the slide can be worked from either end for a press check. The frame carries no finger grooves, which sounds like a small thing until a shooter with hands that do not match the mould tries the older design, and a flared magazine well funnels magazines in under stress.

What the V Series changed on the Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round

The V Series is Glock’s 2025 replacement for the Gen5 line, and from the outside almost nothing has moved. Grip texture, controls, ergonomics and trigger feel carry straight across, existing holsters still fit, and the shooting experience is the Gen5 experience. The changes are internal and are reported to be centered on a redesigned firing pin channel and a reinforced rear trigger housing, intended to make the pistol harder to tamper with illegally. We have not been able to confirm that detail against Glock published material, so treat it as the trade account rather than a specification.

One consequence matters when buying parts, and it is the reason we are cautious rather than emphatic. We would not assume V Series internals interchange with Gen3, Gen4 or Gen5 components. Magazines and most external accessories carry over, but slide internals and some aftermarket trigger parts do not. Slide internals and aftermarket trigger parts are where a wrong assumption costs money, so ask us to confirm fitment on the specific part before you order it.

Safe Action and controls on the Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round

Underneath sits the Safe Action system Glock has used since 1982: three passive, independently operating mechanical safeties that disengage in sequence as the trigger is pressed and reset automatically when it is released. There is no manual safety lever to remember and no decocker, which is a large part of why the platform dominates duty holsters. The slide stop lever is ambidextrous and the magazine catch is reversible, so left handed shooters are accommodated without aftermarket parts.

Why buyers choose the Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round

The G45 answers a specific complaint about both of its parents. A G19 grip leaves some hands short and holds fifteen rounds; a G17 slide is longer than it needs to be for carry. Putting the compact slide on the full frame keeps the capacity and the grip while shedding the slide length, which is why it has become the default choice for uniformed carry among agencies that have moved to it.

The other reason is the ecosystem. No other handgun platform has the depth of holsters, sights, magazines and parts that Glock does, and buying into it means never hunting for support. Armorers everywhere know the design, and the manual of arms transfers to every other pistol in the line.

Who Should Buy It

The Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round suits the duty officer who wants full capacity and a faster holster draw, the concealed carrier who can hide a grip under a covering garment but wants the shorter slide, and the shooter who found the G19 grip half a finger too short.

Seventeen rounds, and what to put with them

A Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round is the full-size grip with the compact slide, which is the combination most duty and range shooters end up preferring once they have tried both. A Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round also makes magazines the easy part: anything cut for the G17 fits.

Every Glock 45 V 9mm 17 Round owner buys spares eventually, so start there. Magpul PMAG GL9 is the volume answer, and the ETS Omega for the 17 and 19 is translucent, which is genuinely useful while you are learning to count rounds. For practice, CCI Blazer Brass 115gr is cheap by the case; for carry, Federal 147gr HST is the load most agencies settled on.

If ten rounds is your limit, the same pistol in the ten-round configuration is the one to buy. If you want the full-size slide as well as the full-size grip, the Glock 17 V is the straight comparison, and the Glock 19 V goes the other way with the compact frame.
