Description

The G2 Research Civic Duty 40 SW 122gr load, item G00620, is a 20 round box of 40 S&W ammunition from G2 Research, loaded with a 122 grain solid copper Civic Duty expanding bullet. It is designed for personal and home defense where controlled penetration matters.

G2 Research Civic Duty 40 SW 122gr Overview

The 40 S&W remains a common duty and concealed carry cartridge, and most loads for it use bullets of 155 to 180 grains. This Civic Duty load uses a much lighter 122 grain solid copper bullet, built to expand quickly and stop within a shorter, controlled depth. G2 Research developed Civic Duty for situations where over-penetration is a real concern, such as apartments and homes with family members in other rooms.

Because the bullet is machined from copper, it is longer than a lead-core bullet of the same weight and holds together as it expands, rather than shedding a jacket or core.

How the Civic Duty Bullet Works

The Civic Duty bullet takes the trocar nose of the G2 Research R.I.P. and adapts it to an expanding design. Instead of shedding petals, it opens to about 2.5 times its original diameter after entering a fluid medium and holds together. G2 Research reports that it retains 99.9 percent of its weight and lists 6.5 to 7.5 inches of penetration for this caliber, a depth chosen to transfer energy to the target without the over-penetration concerns of many bonded hollow points in close-quarters settings.

Barrier Performance

G2 Research says Civic Duty defeats barriers about as well as the R.I.P., thanks to the same machined trocar nose. Heavy clothing, drywall and similar obstacles are the usual tests for a defensive load, and a solid copper bullet cannot shed a jacket or lose its core when it meets them. Controlled expansion and high weight retention make it a more conventional choice than a fragmenting round for shooters who prefer an expanding bullet.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for handguns chambered in 40 S&W, including the Glock 22, 23 and 27, the Smith and Wesson M&P40, the SIG P320 and P229 in 40, and the Springfield XD in 40. Do not fire it in a 10mm Auto or 357 SIG firearm. Run at least a box through your pistol to confirm feeding, since the copper bullet profile differs from a typical hollow point. One gallery photo shows the same Civic Duty projectile in 45 ACP for reference.

Lead-Free Construction

Every G2 Research Civic Duty bullet is machined from solid copper on precision equipment, so there is no lead in the projectile. That makes it a good fit for shooters who want to reduce lead exposure, and for areas where lead-free projectiles are preferred or required. The machined process also keeps weight and dimensions consistent from round to round, which helps accuracy and predictable feeding.

Recoil and Shootability

A 122 grain bullet in 40 S&W gives a quicker, lighter push than heavy duty loads. Many shooters find the recoil manageable in full-size and compact pistols, though the snappy character of the 40 is still there. Practice with the load you carry so its recoil and point of impact are familiar.

Practice and Testing

Defensive ammunition costs more than range ammunition, but it is worth running at least a box through your own firearm before you rely on it. Check that every round feeds from a full and nearly empty magazine, ejects cleanly and lands where you aim at typical defensive distances. Many shooters practice with less expensive loads and then confirm zero and function with the carry load a few times a year.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Rotate carry ammunition periodically, and set aside any round with a dented case, loose bullet or signs of corrosion.
