Description

The Fusion Firearms XP Comp Black 17 Round is a compensated, wide-body 1911-style 9mm that runs standard 17-round Glock G17 pattern magazines. It is built for shooters who want a flat-shooting double-stack pistol for competition or range work without paying premium 2011 prices for proprietary magazines.

Fusion Firearms XP Comp Black 17 Round Overview

Fusion Firearms in Venice, Florida developed the XP Comp as the next step in its XP line, working with the Italian parts maker Ermox. The pistol combines a steel frame with a Picatinny rail, a modular aluminum grip with a removable magwell, and a slide machined from bar stock. A 4.6-inch Clark/Para ramped bull barrel feeds an integrated compensator held by a pinned, threadless system. The black Tennifer QPQ finish resists wear and corrosion. At about 39 ounces unloaded, 8.25 inches long and 1.3 inches wide, it is a full-size pistol meant for the range rather than discreet carry.

Built for Competition

With 17-round magazines, a compensator and an optics-ready slide, the XP Comp lines up well with USPSA Carry Optics and similar match divisions, though you should always check the current rulebook for weight and dimension limits before a major match. The steel frame and comp keep the dot steady through recoil, which speeds up split times on close targets. The removable magwell funnels fast reloads, and the wide paddle slide stop is easy to hit with gloves or a sweaty thumb.

Threadless Compensator Design

Instead of threading the barrel, Fusion pins the comp in place. That keeps the pistol free of a threaded barrel, which matters in states that restrict them, and it keeps the comp aligned. The trade-off is that you cannot simply swap to a suppressor. Like any compensator, it makes the pistol louder and sends blast and unburnt powder upward and to the sides, so expect more fouling to clean and be mindful of people standing next to you. Fusion offers an optional sight block for shooters who prefer weight-forward balance without the comp.

Sights, Optics and Trigger

The Novak-compatible combat sights give you a usable backup, and the rear sight sits on a removable plate. An RMR plate is included, so RMR and SRO footprint red dots mount without extra parts. The one-piece steel trigger is machined from bar stock and delivers the short, crisp 1911-style pull many shooters prefer over striker triggers. Fit and finish of red dot mounts on plate systems should be checked periodically with a torque driver.

Magazines and Reliability

Running Glock G17 pattern magazines is the biggest practical advantage over traditional 2011 pistols, which often need tuned proprietary magazines. Spares are cheap and plentiful. That said, aftermarket magazines vary, so test any new magazine before relying on it in a match or for defense. Ramped bull barrels and full-length guide rods are proven 1911 features, but they also mean a slightly more involved takedown than a striker pistol, so read the manual before the first cleaning.

Ergonomics and Holsters

The ambidextrous thumb safety and textured aluminum grip give left- and right-handed shooters the same control. The wide body fills larger hands well but can feel bulky to shooters with small hands. Because the XP Comp is a newer design from a smaller maker, holster choices are narrower than for mainstream pistols; competition holster makers and custom Kydex shops are your best bet. Resale value is also less predictable than a long-established brand.

State Laws and Ownership

The 17-round magazines included with this version are not legal in states with capacity limits; Fusion and MAG5 also list a 10-round version for those buyers. Some states keep handgun rosters that may not include this model. Check your state and local laws, and confirm with your receiving dealer before ordering.
