Frontier 556 NATO 55gr M193 FMJ by Hornady – Proven 20 Round Box

Description

The Frontier 556 NATO 55gr M193 load, item FR200, is a 20 round box of 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition from Frontier Cartridge, a Hornady brand. It uses a 55 grain full metal jacket bullet loaded to the XM193 specification.

Frontier 556 NATO 55gr M193 Overview

XM193 is the classic 5.56 NATO ball load, the round many AR-15 owners think of as the standard for training. It pairs a 55 grain full metal jacket bullet with full 5.56 NATO pressure for high velocity and reliable cycling in gas-operated rifles. Frontier builds this load in new brass cases to Hornady’s quality standards, which makes it a consistent choice for carbine courses, drills and high-volume practice. The cases are boxer primed and reloadable.

Intended Use

This is training and range ammunition. Full metal jacket bullets do not expand and are not designed for hunting, where many states prohibit them for big game. Use it for practice, zeroing and function testing, and choose a dedicated defensive or hunting load for those purposes.

Bullet and Ballistics

Loaded to 5.56 NATO pressure, M193-type ammunition produces higher velocity than many 223 Remington loads of the same weight, which flattens trajectory and helps reliable cycling in carbines with shorter barrels. Expect velocity to drop as barrel length decreases. The 55 grain bullet stabilizes in virtually any 5.56 barrel twist, from 1:12 to 1:7.

Firearm Compatibility

Fire this ammunition in firearms chambered for 5.56 NATO or 223 Wylde. Rifles marked only 223 Remington may not be designed for 5.56 NATO pressure, so check your barrel marking and maker’s guidance before using it. Never use it in a 300 Blackout firearm.

Reliability and Testing

Factory ammunition from an established maker is held to consistent standards, but every firearm is a little different. Shoot at least a box through your gun before you rely on any load, and watch for clean primer strikes, smooth feeding and positive extraction. If you shoot more than one load, note where each one prints at your usual distance so you can adjust sights or holds.

Recoil and Shootability

Recoil in an AR-15 is light, making long training sessions comfortable. The blast from short barrels can be sharp, so hearing and eye protection are a must.

About Frontier Cartridge

Frontier Cartridge is manufactured by Hornady in Grand Island, Nebraska. The brand focuses on dependable, American-made ammunition for practice, training and general shooting, using new brass cases and quality bullets rather than remanufactured components. That consistency makes it easier to track your zero and build skills, because the ammunition is not adding variables from box to box.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading, and set aside anything that looks damaged.
