Description

The Fort Scott 300 Blackout 150gr TUI load is a 20 round box of 300 AAC Blackout ammunition from Fort Scott Munitions, an American company in Fort Scott, Kansas. It uses a 150 grain Solid Copper Spun (SCS) bullet with the company’s Tumble Upon Impact design, and Fort Scott lists a test velocity of 1,728 fps from a 16 inch barrel. The store listing omits the bullet weight; Fort Scott catalogs this UPC as its 150 grain load.

Fort Scott 300 Blackout 150gr TUI Overview

The 300 Blackout was designed to put 30 caliber performance into a standard AR-15 platform, and this load sits in the middle of the cartridge’s range: heavier than the fast 110 to 125 grain supersonic loads but well above subsonic speed. Fort Scott tested it at 1,728 fps from a 16 inch barrel. The heavier solid copper bullet tumbles on impact, giving deep penetration and a sizable wound path without relying on expansion, which can be inconsistent at moderate 300 Blackout velocities.

It is a sensible choice for home defense in a short carbine and for hogs and deer at close range where legal.

How TUI Works

Fort Scott’s patented Tumble Upon Impact (TUI) design works differently from a hollow point. Rather than mushrooming, the lathe-turned copper bullet is engineered with an off-center balance so it begins to yaw and tumble once it enters a target. A tumbling bullet presents its full length as it travels, creating a large wound channel while keeping its weight because it does not fragment or shed petals. The result is deep, consistent penetration with no lead in the projectile.

Non-Lead Construction

Because the bullet is a single piece of copper turned on a lathe, it contains no lead core. That makes it compliant in areas that restrict lead ammunition for hunting, and it reduces lead exposure at the range. Monolithic bullets are also longer than lead-core bullets of the same weight, so seating depth and case capacity are tuned specifically for each load.

Firearm Compatibility

Fire this ammunition only in firearms chambered for 300 AAC Blackout, also marked 300 BLK. Never load it into a 5.56 NATO or 223 Remington rifle. The two cartridges share magazines and can chamber in the wrong rifle, causing a catastrophic failure. Mark your magazines clearly if you own both. Fort Scott tested the load with a 1:7.5 twist; most 300 Blackout barrels use 1:7 or 1:8.

Accuracy and Testing

Every rifle and pistol has its own preferences. Before you hunt or carry with this load, fire several groups at your usual distance to confirm point of impact and function. Solid copper and brass bullets can shoot to a different point than lead-core loads, so a fresh zero check is always worth the time.

Recoil and Shootability

Recoil is mild in a typical AR-15 carbine, and the muzzle blast is modest compared with 5.56 from short barrels. With a suppressor, this supersonic load will still produce a crack downrange; choose a dedicated subsonic load if quiet operation is the goal. Suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state.

Made in the USA

Fort Scott Munitions designs and manufactures its bullets and loaded ammunition in Kansas. The company holds patents on its tumbling bullet technology and offers it across a wide range of handgun and rifle calibers, from compact pistol rounds to magnum rifle cartridges.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants. Inspect cartridges before use and set aside any with dents, corrosion or loose bullets.
