FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free – Great 2000 Round Case

Description

Indoor ranges have a lead problem, and the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free is one of the cleaner answers to it. FN loads this cartridge with an aluminum cored hollow point and a lead free primer, so neither the bullet nor the priming compound puts lead into the air you are breathing. Buying it 2000 rounds at a time is how people who actually shoot the 5.7 keep it affordable.

What lead free really means here

Two separate sources of lead exposure exist at an indoor range. The obvious one is bullet material vaporizing on impact with the backstop. The less obvious and often larger one is the priming compound, which traditionally contains lead styphnate and goes airborne with every shot. The FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free addresses both, which is why range operators and instructors who shoot all day gravitate toward it.

The aluminum core also changes the bullet itself. It is lighter than lead for its size, which is part of how a 27 grain projectile ends up with the profile it has, and it is why the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free behaves differently on impact than the standard SS197 or SS198 loads. This is a range and training cartridge, not a defensive one.

Barrel length matters more with 5.7x28mm than with almost any other cartridge you will shoot. The FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free leaves a PS90 or a carbine barrel at 2132 feet per second and a Five-seveN pistol at 1890. That is a 242 fps spread from the same box of ammunition, and it is worth knowing before you build a zero.

Who buys ammunition 2000 rounds at a time

Instructors, competition shooters, and anyone who runs a 5.7 as a primary. The cartridge is expensive by the box and considerably less so by the case, which is the entire reason this packaging exists. If you shoot a PS90 or a Ruger 57 with any regularity, the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free in case quantity is simply the cheapest way to do it.

It is also the sensible buy for a club or a family that shares the platform. Two thousand rounds of the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free will keep several shooters fed for a long season, and because it all comes from one lot your point of impact stays consistent from the first round to the last. Mixed lots of 5.7 can and do shift zero slightly.

Honest notes before you buy

Storage is the practical consideration with a case. Two thousand rounds is heavy and it takes real shelf space, so plan somewhere cool, dry and off a concrete floor. Kept that way the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free will still shoot exactly the same in ten years.

Be clear about what this load is for. It is a training and range cartridge. The hollow point cavity is part of the aluminum core construction rather than an expansion mechanism tuned for terminal performance, and FN markets it as a non toxic sporting round. If you want a 5.7 load for defensive use, look at the SS197 or SS198 instead and leave the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free for practice.

Which guns this runs in

The 5.7x28mm family has grown a great deal in the last few years. FN Five-seveN and PS90, Ruger 57 and LC Carbine, Kel-Tec P50 and R50, and a growing list of others all chamber it. The FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free is factory FN ammunition loaded to the original specification, so it functions in all of them without the pressure questions that follow some of the aftermarket loads.

If you run a suppressor, be aware that the 5.7 is a high pressure bottleneck cartridge and it is loud at the muzzle regardless. The FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free is a supersonic load, so a can will take the edge off but will not make it quiet. Subsonic 5.7 is a specialty item and this is not it.

The bottom line

For anyone shooting 5.7x28mm seriously, and especially for anyone shooting it indoors, the FN SS195LF 5.7x28mm 27gr Lead Free in case quantity is the practical way to buy.
