Fiocchi 223 Rem 55gr FMJBT Range Dynamics – Reliable 50 Round Box

Description

The Fiocchi 223 Rem 55gr FMJBT load, item 223AFOA, is a 50 round box of 223 Remington ammunition from the Fiocchi Range Dynamics line, loaded with a 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail (fmjbt) bullet rated at 3,240 fps. Distributors also list it under the earlier Training Dynamics and Shooting Dynamics names.

Fiocchi 223 Rem 55gr FMJBT Overview

The 55 grain full metal jacket is the standard practice bullet for the 223 Remington, and it is what most AR-15 owners shoot when they are working on fundamentals. Fiocchi rates this load at 3,240 fps from a test barrel and lists a G1 ballistic coefficient of .243, numbers that put it right in line with typical 55 grain range ammunition. The boat tail base helps it hold velocity a little better than a flat-base bullet. Packed 50 rounds to the box, it is easy to buy in quantity and keep on one lot for consistent zero and function checks.

Intended Use

This is range and training ammunition. Full metal jacket bullets do not expand, so they are a poor choice for self-defense or hunting, where they can over-penetrate. Use this load to build skill, break in a new firearm and confirm function, then carry or hunt with a load designed for that purpose.

Bullet and Ballistics

A 55 grain bullet at this speed shoots flat out to typical carbine distances, making it a good match for 50 or 100 yard zeros. Expect lower velocity from short barrels, such as 10.5 or 11.5 inch pistols and SBRs. Light 55 grain bullets stabilize in almost any 223 or 5.56 barrel, from older 1:12 rifles and common 1:9 twist barrels to modern 1:7 barrels. Because the bullet does not expand, it is not appropriate for hunting, and it can over-penetrate if used for defense.

Firearm Compatibility

Fire this ammunition in firearms chambered for 223 Remington. Rifles chambered for 5.56 NATO and 223 Wylde can also safely fire 223 Remington. The reverse is not always true: 5.56 NATO ammunition should not be fired in a rifle marked only 223 Remington. Never load it into a 300 Blackout firearm, since mixed magazines can lead to a dangerous chambering error.

Reliability and Testing

Factory ammunition from an established maker is held to consistent standards, but every firearm is a little different. Shoot at least a box through your gun before you rely on any load, and watch for clean primer strikes, smooth feeding and positive extraction. If you shoot more than one load, note where each one prints at your usual distance so you can adjust your sights or holds.

Recoil and Shootability

Recoil from a 223 Remington rifle is very light, which is why the cartridge is so popular for new shooters and high-volume training. Muzzle blast from short barrels can be sharp, so hearing protection is essential, especially indoors or under a covered firing line.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading, and set aside anything that looks damaged.
