Description
The Fiocchi 20SD75 Shooting Dynamics 20ga shell, item 20SD75, is a 20 gauge, 2-3/4 inch target load carrying 7/8 oz of #7.5 lead shot at a rated 1210 fps. Fiocchi lists it among its Exacta Heavy loads, meaning a full 20 gauge payload at a standard target speed.
Fiocchi 20SD75 Shooting Dynamics 20ga Overview
The 20 gauge has become a favorite on clays courses because it is lighter to carry, softer to shoot and still breaks targets cleanly in skilled hands. This shell gives a 20 gauge gun the classic target recipe: a full 7/8 ounce charge of 7.5 shot at about 1,210 fps. That is enough pellet energy for most trap and sporting presentations and enough gas to run most semi-autos. Fiocchi loads Shooting Dynamics in the USA with chilled lead shot, cushioned wads and clean-burning powder, keeping patterns consistent at a price meant for regular practice.
Shot Size and Pattern
Number 7.5 shot is the classic all-round clay size. It carries enough pellet energy to break targets cleanly at typical trap and sporting distances while still filling the pattern well, which is why many shooters use it as their default target shell. Pattern your gun on paper at the distances you shoot most, and match your choke to the target: open chokes for close stations, tighter chokes for longer trap yardage.
Payload and Recoil
In a 20 gauge, 7/8 ounce is the standard full target charge. It gives a well-filled pattern from the smaller bore while keeping recoil low, which is a big part of why 20 gauge guns are so popular with youth, smaller-framed adults and anyone shooting long days. At a rated 1210 fps this is a standard target velocity. It balances pattern quality, recoil and reliable function in most semi-automatic shotguns.
Shotgun Compatibility
Fire this shell only in 20 gauge shotguns with a chamber of 2-3/4 inches or longer. It runs in break-action and pump guns without concern, and most gas-operated semi-autos cycle it reliably. Some inertia-driven and older recoil-operated designs prefer heavier loads, so test a box in your gun before match day. Never place a shell in a gun of a different gauge; a 20 gauge shell can slip past the chamber of a 12 gauge barrel and cause a dangerous obstruction.
Practice and Competition
This is a target and training load. It is well suited to sporting clays, skeet, 16-yard trap and five-stand with a 20 gauge, including coaching programs for youth shooters. Many hunters also use similar lead loads on doves and other small upland birds, but check your state regulations for legal shot types, and remember that lead shot is prohibited for waterfowl.
Consistency and Value
Buying by the case keeps cost per round down and keeps you on one lot. For families and clubs with several 20 gauge guns, a single dependable load that works in everything, from a light over-under to a 20 gauge semi-auto, simplifies the trip to the range.
Storage and Care
Store shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Heat and humidity can affect powder and primers over time, and crushed or split hulls should never be fired. Rotate older boxes forward so they get used first.
