Description
The Fiocchi 12SD78H75 Shooting Dynamics 12ga load, item 12SD78H75, is a light, fast 12 gauge target shell from Fiocchi, one of the oldest ammunition makers in the world. It puts 7/8 ounce of number 7.5 shot in a 2-3/4 inch hull and drives it at a rated 1,350 feet per second, a combination many clay shooters like for long practice days.
Fiocchi 12SD78H75 Shooting Dynamics 12ga Overview
Fiocchi built the Shooting Dynamics line as a value-priced practice and training shell that still patterns consistently. These loads use chilled lead shot, cushioned wads and clean-burning powder, and they are loaded in the USA. The 7/8 ounce payload carries fewer pellets than a 1 or 1 1/8 ounce shell, so it produces noticeably less recoil at a given speed. Fiocchi compensates by pushing the shot faster, which shortens the lead you need on crossing and quartering targets.
For many shooters that trade is a good one, especially over a long round of trap, skeet or clays where fatigue starts to creep into the score.
Shot and Pattern
Number 7.5 shot is a classic all-round clay size. It has enough pellet energy to break targets cleanly at typical trap and skeet distances while still putting a dense pattern on the bird. The lighter payload gives a slightly thinner pattern than heavier loads, so match your choke to the distance. Improved cylinder or skeet chokes suit close stations, while modified or improved modified chokes help at longer trap yardage. Pattern your gun on paper at the distances you shoot most to see exactly what this load does in your barrel.
Recoil and Comfort
Less shot means less recoil, and that matters to newer shooters, smaller-framed adults and anyone shooting a few hundred rounds in a weekend. The higher velocity does add some push back compared with a 7/8 ounce load at 1,200 fps, so this is not the softest shell in the line. If recoil is your main concern, Fiocchi also offers a 7/8 ounce Low Recoil load at a slower speed.
Gun Compatibility
This shell is for 12 gauge shotguns with a 2-3/4 inch or longer chamber. It works in break actions, pumps and most gas-operated semi-autos. Some inertia-driven and older semi-automatic shotguns need heavier loads to cycle reliably, so test a box in your gun before a competition. Never fire it in a 16 or 20 gauge gun.
Uses
This is a target and practice load. It is a fine choice for sporting clays, trap, skeet and five-stand, and it also works well for informal backyard clays. Many hunters use similar loads on doves and other small upland birds, but check your state rules on shot type and size before taking it afield, and remember that lead shot is prohibited for waterfowl.
Value
Shooting Dynamics is priced for volume. Buying by the box or the case lets you practice more often without moving to bargain loads that pattern poorly. Keep a few boxes of the same lot on hand so your point of impact and feel stay consistent from week to week.
Storage and Care
Keep shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Heat and humidity can affect powder and primers over time, and crushed or split hulls should never be fired. Rotate older boxes to the front so they get used first.
