Fiocchi 12ga 1-5/8oz Steel #1 – Reliable Waterfowl Loads

Description

The Fiocchi 12ga 1-5/8oz Steel #1 load, item 1235GG1, is a 12 gauge shotshell from Fiocchi loaded with 1-5/8 oz of #1 steel shot. It comes 25 shells per box.

Fiocchi 12ga 1-5/8oz Steel #1 Overview

Fiocchi has made ammunition in Lecco, Italy, since 1876 and also loads ammunition in Ozark, Missouri. The company is known for quality target, hunting and range loads used by shooters around the world.

Shot and Wad Design

Non-toxic shot is required for waterfowl. Steel is the most common and affordable option, while denser metals such as bismuth and tungsten carry more energy at range and are gentler on older barrels. Choose a shot size to match the birds you hunt, larger for geese and smaller for ducks.

Intended Use

This load is built for ducks and geese, where non-toxic shot is required by law for waterfowl hunting in the United States. It is designed to carry energy and hold patterns at the ranges where birds come into decoys, and it works well over water or field setups.

Shotgun Compatibility

This shell is made for 12 gauge shotguns. Check the gauge and chamber length marked on your barrel before loading, and never fire a longer shell in a shorter chamber. Steel shot should be used with chokes rated for steel; check your barrel and choke maker’s guidance.

Recoil and Handling

Recoil depends on the payload, the velocity and the weight of your shotgun. A good fitting gun and a proper mount make a big difference, especially during a long day in the field or on the range.

Patterning Tips

Shoot a few shells at a large paper target at your typical distance. Look for an even spread without gaps, and note where the center of the pattern lands compared with your point of aim. Trying more than one choke is the quickest way to find what works best.

Hull, Primer and Wad Quality

A good shotshell starts with a strong hull, a dependable primer and a wad that protects the shot as it travels down the barrel. Consistent components give reliable ignition, smooth cycling in pumps and semi-autos, and even patterns from one shell to the next, which is what keeps your hits consistent through a long day.

Choke Selection

Choke choice changes how your pattern spreads. Open chokes such as cylinder and improved cylinder suit close shots, modified is a versatile middle ground, and full or extra full chokes keep patterns tight at longer range. Use only chokes rated for the shot type you are shooting.

Building Confidence

Time behind the shotgun before the season pays off in the field. Practice your mount and swing, shoot the same load you plan to use, and learn how far your gun and choke combination patterns well. A few boxes of practice make a big difference in your hit rate.

Safety in the Field

Always know your target and what lies beyond it, keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and unload your shotgun before crossing fences or ditches. Wear eye and hearing protection on the range, and blaze orange where required in the field.

Storage and Care

Store shotshells in a cool, dry place in their original boxes. Let wet shells dry before storing, and discard any with swollen or damaged hulls.
