Premium Upland Performance in a Small Gauge

Upland hunters love the 28 gauge for its light weight and quick handling, but a small gauge needs an efficient load to make the most of every pellet. Prairie Storm FS Lead uses the FLITECONTROL FLEX wad, which opens from the rear to keep the shot column together a bit longer, producing even, edge to edge patterns through any upland choke.

The payload mixes about 70 percent standard copper plated lead with about 30 percent FLITESTOPPER lead pellets. FLITESTOPPER pellets have a cutting ring that creates larger wound channels, which helps bring birds down cleanly and reduces cripples.

Copper plating hardens the standard pellets so they stay round and carry energy downrange. That retained velocity and energy translate into more effective hits on birds that flush at the edge of range.

Field Notes and Upland Hunting Tips

Use Federal Prairie Storm 28ga 6 Shot shells for pheasant, quail, grouse and other upland birds where lead shot is permitted. Confirm your 28 gauge is chambered for 3 inch shells before loading, since many 28 gauge guns are chambered for 2 3/4 inch only.

The FLITECONTROL FLEX wad is designed to work through any upland choke, but you should still pattern your gun at 25 and 35 yards to see how this load performs with your chokes.

Check local rules on lead shot. Some public hunting lands require non toxic shot, even for upland birds.

Wear blaze orange where required, keep track of your hunting partners and dogs, and unload your gun before crossing fences or obstacles.

If you hunt upland birds with a 28 gauge and want premium patterns and knockdown power, Federal Prairie Storm 28ga 6 Shot shells are a superb choice for pheasant, quail and grouse. Add a comfortable shell pouch for long days in the field.

Hunting over pointing or flushing dogs is one of the great joys of upland shooting, and a light 28 gauge makes long days of walking easier. Pairing that gun with a premium load like Federal Prairie Storm 28ga 6 Shot shells helps you make the most of every flush, especially on late season pheasants that tend to get up wild and farther out.

Take time to practice on sporting clays or skeet before opening day, focusing on rising and crossing targets that mimic flushing birds.

After a day in the field, clean your shotgun to remove plastic residue and moisture, and store shells in a cool, dry place. Keeping your gun and ammunition in good shape means everything works as it should when the next bird flushes.
