Description
Federal AE 38 Super 115gr JHP ammunition is an American Eagle 38 Super +P load built for target shooting and practice. The 115 grain jacketed hollow point leaves a 5 inch test barrel at about 1,130 feet per second, giving 1911 and 38 Super owners a fast, flat shooting round with reliable Federal components. Each box holds 50 rounds.
A Fast Round for Classic 1911s
The 38 Super was introduced in the late 1920s as a higher velocity version of the 38 ACP, and it found a lasting home in 1911 pistols. It is still popular with competitive shooters and with owners of classic and custom 1911s who appreciate its flat trajectory and mild recoil compared with the 45 ACP.
This American Eagle load is rated +P, so it runs at the higher pressure the 38 Super is known for. The 115 grain jacketed hollow point gives clean, consistent performance on paper and steel, and Federal’s published data shows it holding about 940 feet per second at 100 yards.
American Eagle uses Federal primers, brass and clean burning powders, so each box shoots consistently for productive range time.

Shooting Tips
Use Federal AE 38 Super 115gr JHP ammo only in firearms chambered for 38 Super and rated for +P ammunition. Do not fire it in 38 ACP pistols.
Older 1911s should be checked by a qualified gunsmith before firing +P loads.
Confirm reliable feeding with hollow points in your pistol by running several full magazines before relying on the load.
Clean your pistol regularly, paying attention to the feed ramp and extractor for smooth function.
Federal AE 38 Super 115gr JHP ammo is a superb choice for 38 Super 1911 owners, competition shooters who practice with a 38 Super, and collectors who enjoy shooting their classic pistols with quality factory ammunition.
One big reason shooters love the 38 Super is capacity. A 1911 chambered in 38 Super holds more rounds than the same pistol in 45 ACP, and the lighter recoil makes fast follow up shots easier. Federal AE 38 Super 115gr JHP ammo produces roughly 325 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle by standard calculation from a 5 inch barrel.
The cartridge also has a long history in action shooting sports, where its ability to run at higher pressure made it a favorite for compensated race guns. Today it remains a strong choice for steel challenge and USPSA shooters who prefer a 1911 or 2011 style pistol. Federal AE 38 Super 115gr JHP rounds give these shooters a consistent, readily available practice load.
Because 38 Super ammunition is less common than 9mm or 45 ACP, it pays to keep a supply on hand. Buying several boxes at once means you will not miss a match or range day waiting for stock.
Store your ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box. Buying a few boxes of Federal AE 38 Super 115gr JHP from the same lot keeps point of impact and recoil feel consistent from one session to the next.
Keep your fired cases if you reload, since 38 Super brass can be harder to find than more common pistol calibers.
