The Original Premium Hunting Bullet

The Nosler Partition was the first bullet loaded in the Federal Premium line, and it remains a standard for reliability on big game.

A partition divides the lead core into two sections. The front half mushrooms on impact for rapid expansion and energy transfer, while the back half stays intact to drive deep penetration.

That combination of quick expansion and retained weight makes the Partition a dependable choice for big game at close to mid-range distances.

Hunting Tips

Use Federal 300 WSM 180gr Nosler Partition ammo only in rifles chambered for 300 Winchester Short Magnum.

Zero your rifle with this exact load, then confirm your holds at the longest distance you expect to shoot.

Aim for the heart and lung area on a broadside or slightly quartering animal for quick, ethical results.

Practice from field positions such as sitting, kneeling and shooting off sticks before the season.

Federal 300 WSM 180gr Nosler Partition ammo is a time-tested choice for hunters after elk, deer and black bear.

The 300 WSM fits in a short action yet runs close to 300 Win Mag speeds. Pairing it with a 180 grain Partition gives a heavy-for-caliber hunting load that suits a lighter, shorter rifle carried on long days in elk country.

Before the season, shoot a few groups with Federal 300 WSM 180gr Nosler Partition ammo from a solid rest, then practice from the positions you will actually hunt from. A rifle that groups well off the bench is only part of the picture; being able to hold steady from sitting, kneeling or off shooting sticks is what fills tags.

After the shot, give the animal time before you follow up, and mark where it was standing. A soft point bullet that does its job usually leaves a good blood trail, but patience makes recovery much easier.

Clean your rifle after the hunt and store it with a light coat of oil, especially if it was out in rain or snow.

Premium hunting ammunition costs more than practice loads, so many hunters zero with a box of the same load they will hunt with and then confirm their dope before each season. Buying several boxes of Federal 300 WSM 180gr Nosler Partition from one lot keeps your point of impact consistent from year to year.

Wind and range estimation matter as much as the bullet. Use a rangefinder, learn how your load drifts in a crosswind, and practice at the distances you expect to shoot. Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box so it performs the same on opening day as it did at the range.
