Description

Federal 22 LR 25gr 12 Shot rimfire ammunition loads 25 grains of number 12 lead bird shot into a 22 Long Rifle case. Close Range Pest Control from a 22

A rimfire shot load turns a 22 into a tiny shotgun. Instead of a single bullet, each cartridge throws a small pattern of number 12 shot, which makes it far easier to hit a moving snake or rodent at very close range.

Because the payload is light and loses energy quickly, these rounds are designed for short distances. That is exactly what makes them useful around buildings and livestock, where a standard 22 bullet could travel much farther than you want.

Federal Small Game rimfire loads are built for consistent, reliable performance at an affordable price, so you can keep a box handy without a big investment.

Tips for Rimfire Shot Loads

Use Federal 22 LR 25gr 12 Shot ammo only in firearms chambered for 22 Long Rifle.

Shot loads usually do not cycle semi automatic actions. They work best in revolvers, single shot rifles and bolt actions that you cycle by hand.

Keep shots very close, generally within a few yards, where the small pattern is dense enough to be effective.

Always wear eye protection, and be aware that shot can ricochet off hard surfaces.

Federal 22 LR 25gr 12 Shot ammo is a proven choice for farmers, ranchers, hikers and campers who want a close range pest control load for snakes and rodents from a 22 revolver or single shot.

Many outdoorsmen carry a 22 revolver on the farm, in the garden or on the trail, and keeping the first chamber or two loaded with Federal 22 LR 25gr 12 Shot rounds gives a quick answer for a snake underfoot. The remaining chambers can hold standard bullets for anything farther away.

Rimfire shot loads are also handy for dealing with rodents in barns and feed rooms, where a solid bullet could damage equipment or travel too far. The Federal 22 LR 25gr 12 Shot pattern spreads quickly and sheds energy fast, which keeps it focused on the target in front of you.

Pattern your firearm before relying on these rounds. Shoot at a paper target at 5, 10 and 15 feet to see how the shot spreads from your barrel, since rifling and barrel length affect the pattern.

Store your ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box. Keeping a box of Federal 22 LR 25gr 12 Shot on hand means you are ready when a pest shows up around the homestead.

Federal also positions this load for small game. Squirrels and rabbits taken at very close range, such as a rabbit flushed from a brush pile at your feet, are within reach of a rimfire shot load. For anything beyond a few yards, switch to a standard 22 bullet for clean, ethical results. Clean your firearm after shooting shot loads, as lead and residue can build up in the barrel and cylinder.
