Description
The Faxon Premiere 338 ARC AR15 Pistol is Faxon’s top-tier AR15 pistol chambered in .338 ARC, a new big-bore cartridge built to throw heavy bullets from a standard-size AR15. It pairs an 11.5-inch barrel with a fast 1:5 twist, an adjustable gas block, a Schmid match trigger and an SB Tactical SBA3 brace on a side-folding adapter, all in a black Type III hard coat anodized finish.
Faxon Premiere 338 ARC AR15 Pistol Overview
Faxon Firearms is a family-owned maker in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, and the Premiere line sits above its Sport and Pro series with upgraded parts throughout. The .338 ARC was introduced by Hornady to deliver heavy-projectile energy from AR15-size actions, especially with subsonic loads through a suppressor. Faxon’s 11.5-inch barrel uses a pistol-length gas system and the 1:5 twist needed to stabilize long, heavy subsonic bullets. The patented adjustable .750 low-profile gas block lets you tune the gun for subsonic or supersonic ammunition, suppressed or unsuppressed.
Upper, Lower and Bolt
The upper is Faxon’s .338 ARC Enhanced Forged receiver in 7075-T6 aluminum, factory-trued, with modified feed ramps and a honed bore. The forged lower has a tensioning screw to take up play between upper and lower. Inside is a Faxon Superfinished nitride bolt carrier group with a 6.5 Grendel and ARC Type 2 bolt face, the correct bolt face for .338 ARC. The Streamline 10.75-inch M-LOK handguard has a full top rail for optics, lights and a bipod.
Controls, Trigger and Brace
Controls are upgraded throughout: a Faxon Enhanced Match Trigger by Schmid, an ambidextrous safety selector, and a Faxon-edition Breek Sledgehammer ambidextrous charging handle. The SB Tactical SBA3 adjustable brace mounts on a Sylvan Arms folding adapter, so the pistol folds for a truck, safe or pack. A DuraMag 10-round magazine in the 400 Legend pattern is included; .338 ARC shares that magazine pattern, not standard 5.56 magazines.
Muzzle and Suppressor Use
The Faxon MuzzLok stainless Plan B flash hider uses 5/8×24 threads and installs without shims or crush washers, and it works with Plan B to HUB adapters for direct suppressor mounting. Suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4, tax stamp and wait, and they are not legal in every state. When you do suppress it, use the adjustable gas block to reduce gas to the face and keep the action from overrunning, and always confirm your suppressor is rated for .338 caliber, not just .30.
Ammunition Cost and Availability
The biggest caveat is ammunition. As a recent cartridge, .338 ARC has fewer factory loads, higher prices per round and more spotty shelf availability than 300 Blackout or 5.56. Subsonic 300-grain loads are the most common offering, with a smaller selection of supersonic hunting loads. Never fire 300 Blackout or other 30-caliber cartridges in this barrel, and do not mix up magazines; check every round before loading. Handloaders will have more flexibility as components become easier to find.
Hunting and Field Use
From an 11.5-inch barrel, supersonic .338 ARC loads are aimed at deer, hogs and similar medium game at modest ranges, while subsonic heavy bullets suit suppressed hunting at close range. Check your state game laws for caliber and cartridge energy requirements before hunting, since some states regulate straight-wall or minimum caliber rules differently. Short barrels give up velocity, so confirm your zero and drop with the exact ammunition you plan to carry.
State Laws and Ownership
AR pistols with braces are legal under current federal rules but remain regulated differently by some states and cities, and several states restrict AR-pattern firearms, threaded barrels or folding braces altogether. Federal brace rules have changed several times, so stay current on the law. Check your state and local regulations before ordering.
