Tenex Precision, Built for Winter

Biathlon is one of the hardest disciplines in shooting. Athletes arrive at the range with a racing heart, shoot five shots at small knockdown targets, then race away again, often in snow, wind and temperatures far below freezing. Ammunition has to be accurate, feed perfectly from a biathlon magazine and keep its velocity in the cold. ELEY Tenex Biathlon was designed for exactly this job.

ELEY lists a mean velocity of about 1,100 to 1,160 feet per second, a bit higher than standard Tenex. The added speed helps offset the velocity loss that comes with cold temperatures and gives the bullet enough energy to knock down metal biathlon targets reliably.

The specialized biathlon lubricant stays supple in the cold, unlike some wax and grease lubes that stiffen and change how the bullet leaves the case. That consistency, combined with a maximum radial standard deviation of about 4.50 mm, keeps groups tight from the first shoot of a race to the last.

Field Notes and Race Prep Tips

Many teams train with ELEY Biathlon Club and switch to Eley Tenex Biathlon 22LR 40gr ammo for races. Confirm your zero with the race lot at the venue, since altitude and temperature can shift point of impact compared with your home range.

Keep ammunition at outdoor temperature before zeroing so your sight settings match race conditions. Load magazines carefully with dry gloves, and keep snow and moisture away from cartridges, since melting ice can refreeze and cause feeding problems.

As with all rimfire ammo, rifles may prefer certain production lots. Test several lots during the off season, then buy a supply from the best one so your rifle and ammunition stay matched all winter.

Clean your bore and chamber regularly, but avoid heavy cleaning right before a race. A few fouling shots settle the barrel and keep your first prone or standing stage on target.

If you compete in biathlon at the national or international level, or simply want the best cold weather 22 ammunition available, Eley Tenex Biathlon 22LR 40gr is a superb choice. Protect your lot with a quality ammo box and keep your rifle clean with a dedicated rimfire solvent.

Outside of formal biathlon, this load is also a strong choice for winter small bore leagues, cold weather rimfire precision matches and anyone who shoots outdoors through the colder months. The same features that help an elite biathlete, such as steady velocity and smooth feeding in the cold, also help recreational shooters keep their groups tight when the thermometer drops.

Store unopened boxes in a cool, dry place, and bring only what you need to the range so the rest of your lot stays protected from moisture and repeated temperature swings.
