DPMS DR-15 556 Overview
The DR-15 is a DPMS semi-auto rifle that fires one round per trigger press and cycles itself for fast follow up shots.
Action and Controls
The DR-15 is a semi-auto rifle. It holds 30+1 rounds. The safety is manual.
Barrel
The 13.50 inch barrel is chrome moly vanadium with a threaded profile and a 1:7″ twist. Sights are Magpul MBUS Front & Rear.
Stock and Fit
The stock is polymer with a black finish. Check the length of pull against your own fit, especially if you shoot in heavy clothing. Metal surfaces wear Black Hardcoat Anodize and Black Phosphate.
Size and Handling
Overall length is 32″. It weighs about 6.80 lbs. A steady rest, a good sling and practice from field positions will help you shoot it well.
Ammo and Practice
Try a few brands and bullet weights to see what groups best in this rifle, then buy enough of that load to practice and hunt with the same ammo.
The 5.56 NATO
The 5.56 NATO chamber also fires 223 Remington, so you can shoot inexpensive practice ammo and premium hunting or defensive loads.
Target Shooting and More
This rifle is a good fit for target shooting, training and, where legal, home defense or hunting. Add a quality optic or red dot and a sling, and confirm your zero.
Optics and Accessories
Plan on quality scope rings or mounts, a sling, a hard or soft case and a cleaning kit. A bipod or shooting sticks help a lot for steady shots in the field or at the bench.
Buying Tips
Budget for quality optics or sights, a sling and ammo, and confirm your zero at the distances you expect to shoot.
Care and Value
Clean the bore and action after each range trip or hunt, keep moving parts lightly oiled and wipe the finish after handling. A well kept DPMS holds its value.
State Laws
Some states limit semi-auto features, magazine capacity and hunting calibers. Check your local law before you buy. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
Ordering and Transfer
When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.
Safe Storage
Store the firearm unloaded in a locked safe or case, with ammunition kept separately. A cable lock or trigger lock is a good backup, especially in a home with children or visitors. Keep the original box and paperwork, and record the serial number in a safe place in case the gun is ever lost or stolen.
