Description
The DoubleTap 40 SW 125gr Lead Free load is a fast, light, all-copper defensive round for 40 SW pistols. DoubleTap built it around a 125 grain Barnes TAC-XP bullet developed for the company, and lists about 1,390 fps and 536 ft-lbs from a Glock 23. Very little muzzle flash and strong ballistics make it a solid choice for concealed carry. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Why a Light Copper Bullet in 40 SW
Most 40 SW defensive loads use 165 or 180 grain bullets. DoubleTap took a different path with a light 125 grain all-copper hollow point pushed to high velocity. The lighter bullet reduces felt recoil compared with heavy loads, while the speed keeps energy high. For many shooters that means faster follow-up shots from a compact pistol.
The Barnes TAC-XP design is a solid copper hollow point with no lead core. When it strikes, the nose opens into petals while the shank keeps driving forward, so the bullet holds almost all of its weight. That combination of reliable expansion and weight retention is why copper bullets have become popular with people who carry for defense.
DoubleTap lists about 1,295 fps and 468 ft-lbs from a 3.5 inch barrel, about 1,390 fps and 536 ft-lbs from a 4 inch Glock 23, and about 1,445 fps and 580 ft-lbs from a 4.5 inch barrel. Those figures place this 40 SW self defense ammo among the more energetic factory loads available for the cartridge.
Low muzzle flash is another advantage in a defensive load. Bright flash can ruin your night vision in a dark room, and DoubleTap says this round produces very little. Because the bullet is lead free, the load also works where nonlead ammunition is required.

Field Notes and Carry Tips
Run several magazines of this 40 SW ammo through your pistol before carrying it. Light, fast bullets cycle the slide differently from heavier loads, so confirm reliable feeding, ejection, and lockback with your own gun and magazines.
Check your point of impact at 7, 15, and 25 yards. Light bullets often print lower than heavy ones in many pistols, and knowing exactly where this load hits keeps you accurate when it matters.
Practice with your holster and the clothing you actually wear. Dry-fire work with snap caps builds a smooth draw and trigger press without the cost of live ammunition, and live-fire sessions confirm the skills under recoil.
Rotate carry ammunition regularly to avoid bullet setback from repeated chambering. Store spare boxes in a cool, dry place away from solvents and lubricants.
This load is a strong fit for Glock 22, Glock 23, Glock 27, and other 40 SW owners who want a fast, low-recoil carry round. It also suits shooters who prefer copper bullets or need nonlead ammunition. If you want 40 SW carry ammo with strong energy and minimal flash, the DoubleTap 40 SW 125gr Lead Free is a proven choice.
