Description
The Diamondback SDR 357 Magnum Stainless is Diamondback Firearms’ take on the classic snub-nose defensive revolver. SDR stands for Self Defense Revolver, and this model (DB0700S701) is a six-shot, 2 inch, all-steel double action revolver in polished stainless steel chambered for 357 Magnum that also fires 38 Special and 38 Special +P.

Diamondback SDR 357 Magnum Stainless Overview
Most short-barrel revolvers in this class hold five rounds. The SDR holds six, which is its biggest selling point. 2 ounces, heavier than an alloy or polymer snub but much easier to shoot with full-power magnum loads. 53 inches. 75 twist, and the rubber grip carries the Diamondback logo. A fiber optic front sight and a low-profile dovetailed fiber optic rear sight make this snub easier to aim quickly than the traditional groove-and-ramp sights found on many small revolvers.
Double Action Trigger
The SDR is double action and single action. In double action the pull runs heavy, roughly 9 to 11.5 pounds according to Diamondback, and is designed to be smooth and non-stacking so the weight does not climb sharply at the end of the stroke. You can also thumb back the hammer for a lighter single action shot at longer range. A transfer bar safety blocks the hammer from reaching the firing pin unless the trigger is fully pulled.

357 Magnum vs 38 Special
Being able to shoot both cartridges is a real advantage. 38 Special loads are cheaper, softer and ideal for practice and for shooters who are sensitive to recoil. 357 Magnum delivers more velocity and energy but comes with sharp recoil, loud report and heavy muzzle flash from a 2 inch barrel, especially indoors. Many owners practice with 38 Special and carry a 38 Special +P or a mid-weight 357 load they can control well. Never use 357 Magnum ammunition in a revolver marked only for 38 Special; this SDR is rated for both.
Polished Stainless Finish
The polished stainless steel finish resists rust and is easy to maintain, which suits a gun carried close to the body or kept in a vehicle or nightstand. It also shows holster wear and fingerprints more readily than a matte or black nitride finish. Diamondback offers the SDR in black nitride if you prefer a lower-glare look.

Carry and Reloads
At 21.2 ounces the SDR carries well in a good belt holster, though it is heavier than most pocket guns. Because it has six chambers, J-frame holsters will not fit; look for holsters made for the SDR or for similar six-shot small-frame revolvers. Reloading any revolver is slower than swapping a magazine, so carry speed strips or a compatible speedloader and practice using them.
Who Builds It
Diamondback Firearms is a Florida-based maker best known for small pistols and AR-15 rifles. The SDR was its first revolver, and while the brand does not have the long revolver history of the older names, the SDR has earned a following for its six-round cylinder and value price. Resale value is likely to trail the legacy revolver brands, which is worth knowing if you trade guns often.
State Laws and Ownership
Diamondback markets the SDR line as compliant in several restrictive states, but roster listings change and vary by finish and caliber. Confirm that this exact model is approved where you live before ordering, and check local rules on carrying a handgun outside the home.
