Description

The Diamondback DB9 Nickel Boron 9mm is about as small as a centerfire 9mm pistol gets. Diamondback builds this Gen4 DB9 (model DB0200P021) with a black polymer frame and a 416 stainless slide finished in nickel boron, so it pairs a two-tone look with a coating that shrugs off sweat and holster wear.

Diamondback DB9 Nickel Boron 9mm Overview

Diamondback designed the DB9 for deep concealment first. The pistol weighs 13.4 ounces empty, stands about 4 inches tall with the flush magazine and is roughly 0.90 inch wide, which lets it disappear in a front pocket or under a light shirt. The 3.1 inch 410 stainless barrel uses a 1:10 twist, and the captured all-steel recoil assembly keeps takedown simple. Capacity is 6+1 from the supplied magazine. The trade-off is plain: a gun this light and short moves a lot in the hand with full-power 9mm loads, so it rewards practice more than a compact or full-size pistol does.

Nickel Boron Slide and Polymer Frame

The nickel boron finish is the main difference between this DB9 and the all-black version. It is a hard, slick coating that resists corrosion better than most bluing or nitride finishes, which matters on a gun that rides against your body all day. The silver slide over a black frame also makes this version easy to identify in the safe. The polymer frame keeps weight down and has molded texture on the grip panels to help control the pistol during recoil.

Trigger and Firing System

The DB9 uses a striker-fired, double action only mechanism that Diamondback describes as zero-energy: the striker is not held under tension until you press the trigger. Pull weight runs about 5.5 pounds with a short reset. There is no manual safety, so a quality holster that fully covers the trigger guard is not optional. Many owners pair it with a pocket holster or a slim IWB rig for appendix carry, and both styles work well with the narrow 0.90 inch profile.

Sights and Practical Accuracy

Sights are a low-profile, windage-adjustable rear with a fixed front post, which keeps snag points to a minimum. The 4.25 inch distance between the sights is short, so this pistol is built for close-range defensive use rather than bullseye work. Expect the best results inside about 10 yards. If you plan to run it hard, budget time at the range to learn the grip and trigger before you rely on it.

Ammunition and Recoil

Because the DB9 is so light, standard-pressure 115 or 124 grain defensive loads are the sweet spot for most shooters. Hot +P ammunition will work, but it adds noticeable muzzle flip and wear on a micro pistol. Test several boxes of your chosen carry load to confirm it feeds and ejects reliably in your gun. Clean and lightly lubricate the slide rails regularly; small pistols are less forgiving of dirt and dry parts than larger frames.

Ownership Notes

Diamondback Firearms is based in Cocoa, Florida, and the DB9 has been through several generations since its launch. This Gen4 model reflects years of refinements to the recoil system and trigger. Holster and accessory support is good for a niche pistol, though you will see fewer options than for the most popular micro 9mm guns. Spare magazines are worth buying early, since a single 6-round magazine leaves little margin.

State Laws and Ownership

The 6-round magazine is well under the capacity limits found in the most restrictive states, but some states and cities maintain approved handgun rosters, and the DB9 is not listed on every one of them. Check your state and local rules before ordering, and ask your receiving dealer if you are unsure whether this model can be transferred where you live.
