Description

The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 in this configuration is a California compliant 5.56 NATO carbine finished in Rattlecan Cerakote. It runs a 16 inch cold hammer forged barrel, a 15 inch MFR M-LOK handguard, and Daniel Defense own furniture front to back. It ships with a 10 round magazine so it can be sold in states with capacity limits.
Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Barrel and Gas System
The barrel is cold hammer forged from chrome moly vanadium steel in a government profile, chrome lined and finished with a mil-spec heavy phosphate coating. Twist is 1:7, which stabilizes everything from 55 grain range ammunition up through the heavy 77 grain match loads. Cold hammer forging is the expensive way to make a barrel and it is a large part of why Daniel Defense barrels last as long as they do.
The gas system is mid-length with a pinned low profile gas block. Mid-length gas on a 16 inch barrel is the configuration most builders consider ideal: it gives the bolt a longer dwell time, which softens the impulse and reduces wear compared to a carbine-length system on the same barrel. The muzzle wears a Daniel Defense flash suppressor threaded 1/2×28 in salt bath nitrided 17-4 stainless.
Receivers, Handguard, and Furniture
Both receivers are CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with M4 feed ramps and a Type III hard coat anodized base finish before the Rattlecan Cerakote goes on. Rattlecan is Daniel Defense take on a field-applied spray camo, and it looks like exactly that: a mottled, worn pattern rather than a crisp printed camo.
The handguard is the Daniel Defense MFR 15.0, machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with M-LOK slots at multiple clock positions and a continuous top rail. It free floats the barrel and it attaches with the Daniel Defense proprietary bolt-up system, which is one of the more rigid handguard interfaces on the market. The buttstock and pistol grip are Daniel Defense glass filled polymer, and the bolt carrier group is an M16 profile, chrome lined.

Why Buyers Choose the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7
The V7 is the rifle most people picture when they hear the Daniel Defense name. It is not the cheapest AR on the shelf and it does not pretend to be, but the parts that matter most for longevity and accuracy are the ones Daniel Defense refuses to cut corners on: the barrel, the bolt carrier group, and the handguard interface. Buyers pay for a rifle that will still be shooting well after tens of thousands of rounds.
The California compliant configuration is a practical point too. Buyers in restricted states usually have to send a rifle to a gunsmith for modification or settle for a featureless build with awkward ergonomics. This one arrives ready to sell in those states.
Who Should Buy It
Anyone in a capacity-restricted state who wants a top-tier AR without an aftermarket compliance project. It is equally at home as a duty-grade defensive carbine, a training rifle, or a general-purpose 5.56 that will shoot everything you feed it. If you want the lightest possible carbine or you are building on a budget, there are cheaper 16 inch options, but few that will outlast this one.
