Description
The CMMG Banshee Mk4 556 Midnight Bronze is a 10.5-inch AR-15 pistol in 5.56x45mm NATO, built with an adjustable gas block, a ZEROED muzzle brake and a CMMG arm brace, all finished in Midnight Bronze Cerakote. It is a classic short AR pistol layout with a few upgrades over a basic build.
CMMG Banshee Mk4 556 Midnight Bronze Overview
56 is the most conventional of the family. It uses a standard direct impingement carbine gas system, a carbine buffer and a six-position receiver extension, so parts, magazines and accessories are as common as they get. A billet 6061 upper and forged 7075 lower give it a clean look, and the bronze Cerakote stands apart from the usual black. 5 inch Midnight Bronze model.
Barrel and Gas System
The 10.5 inch medium-taper barrel is 4140 chrome moly with a salt bath nitride finish and a fast 1:7 twist, which stabilizes everything from 55 grain range ammo to heavy 77 grain loads. An adjustable .750 gas block lets you reduce gas for a suppressor or tune for your ammunition. Short 5.56 barrels lose velocity, so terminal performance is lower than from a 16 inch carbine; choose defensive loads designed for short barrels.
Muzzle Brake Blast
The ZEROED SVB brake on the 1/2×28 thread reduces muzzle rise, but a brake on a 10.5 inch 5.56 barrel is extremely loud and throws blast to the sides. Indoors it can be disorienting without hearing protection. Many owners swap to a flash hider or add a suppressor. Suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4 plus state legality.
Brace and Pistol Configuration
The Banshee ships with the CMMG RipBrace on a six-position extension. Brace rules have changed several times, and the 2023 ATF brace rule was vacated by the courts, but federal guidance and state law should be checked before use. Adding a true stock creates a short-barreled rifle requiring prior ATF approval, and a vertical foregrip on a pistol can also create NFA issues.
Controls and Accessories
The ambidextrous ZEROED charging handle, ZEROED 60/90 degree selector and ZEROED drop-in single-stage trigger are welcome upgrades over mil-spec parts. The EML9 M-LOK handguard gives space for a light and a hand stop. The pistol uses standard AR-15 magazines, and CMMG includes one 30-round magazine. At 5.5 lb and 26 inches long, it balances well with a red dot.
Ownership and Value
CMMG backs the Banshee with a lifetime quality guarantee, and the standard Mk4 architecture makes upgrades and repairs easy. Bronze Cerakote holds up well to handling and cleaning solvents. Resale value for CMMG pistols is solid, though braced pistols can be harder to sell in states with stricter rules.
State Laws and Ownership
AR pistols are restricted or banned in states including California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington, Illinois and Colorado, and 30-round magazines are illegal in several more. Threaded barrels and braces may be regulated separately. Confirm with your dealer that this pistol can be transferred to you before ordering.
