Chiappa 1873 SAA .22LR Single-Action Revolver – Reliable 6-Round Western Classic

Description

Chiappa 1873 22LR Revolver Overview

The Chiappa 1873 22LR revolver brings the classic single-action design of the American Old West into a dependable, affordably priced rimfire package. Built by Chiappa Firearms, this SAA-pattern revolver blends authentic cowboy-era styling with the low-cost fun of rimfire shooting, making it a reliable pick for cowboy action matches, casual plinking, and teaching new shooters the fundamentals of single-action handling.

This particular model wears a 4.75-inch blued steel barrel with a fixed front sight and a smooth, six-round cylinder chambered in 22 Long Rifle. The black plastic grips are shaped for a secure, comfortable hold, while the alloy frame, steel-lined cylinder, and steel barrel liner combine to keep the revolver light in the hand without sacrificing long-term durability. Like traditional single-action revolvers, it operates with an exposed hammer that must be manually cocked before every shot, giving new and experienced shooters alike a genuine feel for old-school revolver craftsmanship.

Because it is chambered in budget-friendly 22LR, this Chiappa single action revolver is an excellent trainer for building fundamentals such as trigger control, sight alignment, and safe muzzle discipline, all without the recoil or ammunition cost of a centerfire revolver. It is equally at home on the plinking range, at a cowboy action shooting stage, or in the field for small game and pest control. Owners of the larger centerfire 1873 SAA models often add this rimfire revolver to their collection as a low-cost way to practice the same manual of arms.

Chiappa 1873 SAA Heritage and Care

The original Colt Single Action Army of 1873 set the standard for American revolver design, and the Chiappa 1873 22LR revolver keeps that heritage alive at a fraction of the cost of shooting centerfire calibers. Every part of the manual of arms, from thumbing back the hammer to swinging out the loading gate on the right side of the frame, mirrors the original 19th-century design, so shooters who train on this rimfire model build muscle memory that transfers directly to full-size single-action revolvers. You can read more about the manufacturer on the official Chiappa Firearms website.

Maintenance is straightforward. After a range session, run a bore brush and a few patches of solvent through the barrel, wipe down the blued exterior with a light coat of gun oil to prevent rust, and check that the black plastic grips remain snug against the frame screws. Because the cylinder and barrel liner are steel, this revolver stands up well to repeated rimfire use, and the alloy frame keeps the loaded weight manageable for shooters of all experience levels, including younger or smaller-framed shooters who are just starting out with handguns.
