Charles Daly 301 12ga 28 Savage Overview
The 301 is a Charles Daly pump shotgun. Pump guns are simple, tough and run with almost any load, which makes them a top pick for hunting and home defense.
Action and Controls
The 301 is a pump shotgun. It holds 4+1 rounds. The trigger is Single Stage. The safety is thumb. This is a right hand model.
Barrel and Chokes
The 28 inch barrel is steel with a vent rib profile. The chamber accepts 3″ shells. Sights are Fiber Optic Front.
Stock and Fit
The stock is synthetic with a savage woodland camo finish. The length of pull is 14.25″. Metal surfaces wear Flat Dark Earth.
Size and Handling
Overall length is 48.38″. It weighs about 7.50 lbs. Mount the gun the same way every time and let your eyes lead the muzzle to the target.
Ammo and Practice
Use target loads for clays, the right shot size for the birds you hunt, and buckshot or slugs only where they fit the job. Pattern the gun with each load at the distances you expect to shoot.
The 12 gauge
The 12 gauge is the most versatile shotgun gauge, handling everything from light target loads to heavy waterfowl, turkey and defense loads.
Upland Birds and Waterfowl
This shotgun suits upland birds, doves and waterfowl, and it works fine for a round of clays. Federal law requires nontoxic shot for waterfowl.
Accessories
A sling, a case, extra choke tubes and a good recoil pad make a shotgun easier to live with. Hunters should add shell carriers and blaze orange or camo gear as the season requires.
Buying Tips
Pattern your gun with each choke and load you plan to use, and check that the length of pull fits you.
Care and Value
Clean the bore and action after each range trip or hunt, keep moving parts lightly oiled and wipe the finish after handling. A well kept Charles Daly holds its value.
State Laws
Some states limit semi-auto features, magazine capacity and hunting calibers. Check your local law before you buy. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
