CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ – Great Range Load 50 Rounds

Description

CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ is the original load in the original weight. Two hundred and thirty grains of round nose ball is what John Browning designed the cartridge around in 1905, and it is still what most 45 Auto pistols are regulated for. The brass cased Blazer line gives you that at close to aluminium case pricing.

Why 230 grain defines CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ

The 45 ACP is a big slow bullet by design and the 230 grain weight is its natural state. CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ runs at roughly 830 feet per second, which is subsonic, quiet by centerfire standards and produces the long pushing recoil that 1911 shooters know well rather than the sharp snap of a smaller bore.

Lighter 185 and 200 grain loads exist and shoot flatter, but most 45s have their sights regulated for 230 grain ball. If your pistol came with fixed sights, this is the weight it was set up for.

Full specifications

• Bullet: Full Metal Jacket round nose
• Case: Reloadable brass, boxer primed

Cases are reloadable boxer primed brass with CCI primers, which is the meaningful difference from standard aluminium cased Blazer. The bullet is a copper jacketed lead core round nose, which is the most reliably feeding profile ever designed for the cartridge, including in older 1911s with tight feed ramps.

Where CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ belongs

This is practice ammunition for people who shoot 45 in volume, and 45 is an expensive cartridge to feed. CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ is the sensible middle ground, cheap enough to shoot weekly and still leaving reloadable brass in the bucket at the end of the session.

It is also the right choice for breaking in a new 1911 or testing a tuned one. Round nose ball is what those pistols were built to feed, so if a gun will not run this, the problem is the gun.

Honest notes before you buy

Save the brass without exception. Forty five ACP brass is large, easy to work with, lasts many loadings and is the cartridge most reloaders start on. CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ pays for part of itself if you load.

Subsonic velocity makes this a natural choice if you shoot suppressed. A 230 grain 45 bullet is already below the sound barrier with no special load required, which is not true of most 9mm ammunition.

Getting the most from CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ

This is the important caveat. CCI Blazer Brass 45 ACP 230gr FMJ is range ammunition. Ball does not expand, so it overpenetrates and relies entirely on the hole its diameter makes. For carry, buy a quality expanding load and confirm it feeds in your pistol. Use this to shoot enough that the pistol is worth carrying.

It stores indefinitely in a dry place at stable temperature. Sealed boxes of 45 ball from decades ago still function reliably, which is more than can be said for most things that old.

The bottom line

Steel targets want distance with any pistol caliber. Ten yards minimum and eye protection always, because a 230 grain jacket coming back is not a small thing. You can read more about the bullet design at swiftbullets.com, or browse the rest of our stock on the MAG5 Firearms ammunition page.
