Description
The CCI 17 HMR 20gr FMJ load was built for hunters who want the flat trajectory of the .17 HMR without the heavy meat damage of a fast-expanding varmint bullet. CCI loads a 20 grain full metal jacket bullet at a rated 2375 feet per second, giving you the reach and accuracy the cartridge is known for while punching clean, non-expanding holes. That makes it a smart choice for squirrels, rabbits and other small game you plan to put on the table.

CCI has built rimfire ammunition in Lewiston, Idaho for decades, and its priming is known for consistent ignition in cold weather and warm alike. Every round in this box is loaded to deliver the same point of impact, so once your scope is zeroed with this 17 hmr ammo, you can trust it for the whole season. Check your zero before each season, since switching from polymer-tip loads to FMJ can shift point of impact slightly.
Store rimfire ammunition in a cool, dry place and keep it in the original box to protect the bullets. Clean your rifle bore periodically, since fast-moving jacketed bullets can leave copper fouling over time.
The CCI 17 HMR 20gr FMJ is also a handy load for practice and plinking when you want to keep your rifle zeroed with the same bullet weight you hunt with. Its mild report and near-zero recoil make it pleasant to shoot for long sessions, and it lets new hunters build confidence before the season opens.
When hunting with non-expanding bullets, shot placement matters most. Take shots within the range where you can reliably hit a small target, and practice from field positions such as sitting, kneeling and shooting off a tree trunk before heading into the woods.

Why Use 17 HMR FMJ for Small Game
Most .17 HMR loads use polymer-tipped varmint bullets that expand violently on impact. That is great for prairie dogs and ground squirrels, but it can ruin a rabbit or tree squirrel you intended to eat. This 17 hmr fmj load solves that problem with a solid jacketed bullet that holds together, so you get clean kills with far less meat loss.
The 20 grain bullet at 2375 fps still gives you the flat-shooting performance that made the .17 HMR popular, so you can take longer, more confident shots than with a .22 LR. Head shots and well-placed shots behind the shoulder are recommended to take full advantage of the non-expanding design.
Because the bullet does not expand, it is best suited to small game rather than larger varmints or predators. Pick a polymer-tip or hollow point load for coyotes, groundhogs and other tougher animals.
Squirrel and rabbit hunters, small game enthusiasts and anyone who wants a flat-shooting 17 hmr small game ammo that saves meat will get steady performance from this 50-round box. Always confirm your firearm is chambered for .17 HMR, know what is beyond your target, and follow all federal, state and local hunting laws.
