Description
The Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth is a micro-compact carry nine that arrives with a factory optic cut, a Picatinny rail and a genuinely good trigger at a price that undercuts almost everything it competes with. Canik built its reputation on exactly that arithmetic and the MC9 is the most concentrated example of it.
The numbers are what matter in this class. Six point one inches long, four and a half tall, one and one sixth wide, and twenty-one ounces with an empty magazine. That is small enough to carry inside the waistband without planning your wardrobe around it, and heavy enough that a 9mm out of a 3.18 inch barrel does not feel like a punishment.
This particular SKU, Canik HG7651CABDN, is the ten round California compliant pistol configuration. The gun is identical to the standard MC9 in every respect except what the magazine holds, which matters if you live somewhere that caps capacity and matters not at all if you do not.
What you get for the money
- A factory optic cut in the slide, so a red dot is a plate and a screwdriver rather than a gunsmith visit.
- A Picatinny rail on a micro-compact frame, which is far from universal at this size.
- Black Cerakote on a steel slide over a flat dark earth polymer frame, which is a two-tone that hides handling marks well.
- A striker trigger with genuinely short reset, which is the single most praised thing about Canik pistols and the reason they keep selling.
- A micro compact optic ready 9mm at a price where most competitors are still charging for the optic cut as an upgrade.

Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth dimensions and handling
- Overall length 6.1 in., height 4.52 in., width 1.16 in.
- Weight 21.27 oz unloaded, which is on the heavier side for a micro and is why it shoots as well as it does.
- 3.18 in. steel barrel.
- White dot front sight with a blacked-out rear, which pushes the eye to the front sight where it belongs.
- Textured polymer grip with a Picatinny rail molded into the dust cover.

The image problem on this listing, now fixed

Worth saying out loud, because it affects what you thought you were buying. Until today the main photograph on this page showed a black MC9, and a second gallery image showed a black MC9 with a red dot fitted. Neither is what ships. Every image here now shows the flat dark earth pistol as it comes, with no optic mounted.
The slide is cut for an optic and Canik offer their own MECANiK MO1 for it, but nothing is mounted on this SKU and no dot is included. If you want one fitted, the MC9 with the MO1 already on it is a separate product and we stock it.
Ten rounds in a Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth
Canik build the MC9 with twelve and fifteen round magazines as standard and offer a ten round version for capacity restricted states. This is that version. The frame, the slide, the barrel and the trigger are identical.
If you are not in a restricted state, the twelve round magazine with the finger extension is the obvious first purchase and we hold it deep in matching flat dark earth. If you are, this is the configuration that is legal for you, and the ten round magazines it ships with are the correct ones. Check your own limit before ordering spares, because the twelve and fifteen round magazines fit this pistol perfectly well and that is precisely the problem in some states.
Mounting a dot on a Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth
On a Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth the cut takes a plate, and which plate you need depends on the footprint of the optic you own. Canik’s own MECANiK MO1 is the intended pairing and is what the factory-fitted versions carry. Anything else needs the right adapter, so tell us which dot you have and we will confirm before you buy.
The irons are white dot front and blacked-out rear, which is deliberately not a co-witness height arrangement. Fit a dot and the irons drop below the window on most optics. That is a design choice rather than an oversight, but it is worth knowing if you want backup irons you can actually use through the glass. Browse our handguns category for the alternatives.
Honest limits of the Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth
A Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth is a compromise by definition, as every micro-compact is and this one is honest about where it compromises. Twenty-one ounces is heavy for the class, which helps recoil and hurts all-day carry. The grip is short enough that most hands will have a finger under the magazine rather than on it, which is what the finger-extension magazine is for.
And the aftermarket, while growing quickly, is not Glock-sized. Holsters for the MC9 are widely available now; slide work, triggers and custom parts are thinner on the ground. If you intend to modify heavily, look elsewhere. If you intend to carry it and shoot it, this is a great deal of pistol for the money.
Why the Canik METE MC9 Flat Dark Earth earns its place
- A factory optic cut and a rail on a micro-compact, at a price where rivals charge extra for the cut alone.
- The trigger is the reason people buy Canik, and the MC9 has the best one in the size class by a clear margin.
- Twenty-one ounces makes a 3.18 inch 9mm genuinely pleasant rather than merely tolerable.
- Flat dark earth over a black slide is a finish that stays looking new in a holster.
- The ten-round configuration puts the same pistol in the hands of buyers a standard MC9 cannot reach.
If capacity is not restricted where you are, the MC9 Prime in flat dark earth is the current full-capacity version in the same color, and the MC9 L in black gives you the longer grip and more rounds. For a dot already fitted, the MC9L with the MECANiK MO1 takes the mounting question away entirely.
Spares and ammunition: the 12-round MC9 magazine with a finger extension, in matching flat dark earth is the first thing most owners buy, and Federal 115gr FMJ is the practice load we hold deepest.
