Description

Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP is one of the hottest factory 9mm loads available. Buffalo Bore item 24B drives a 124 grain jacketed hollow point at about 1,300 fps using flash suppressed powder, and it comes in a 20 round box. It is self defense ammunition for shooters whose pistols are rated for +P+ pressures.
Who Makes Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP
Buffalo Bore Ammunition, based in Montana, built its reputation on powerful hunting and defensive loads. Rather than quoting test barrel numbers, the company publishes velocities measured from real pistols, which gives buyers a better idea of what to expect from their own guns.
+P+ means the load runs above the industry +P pressure level. There is no standard SAAMI specification for +P+, so each maker sets its own limits. Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP is built for maximum velocity from a standard 124 grain bullet, which means more energy and more reliable expansion, at the cost of extra recoil and wear.
All Buffalo Bore 9mm +P and +P+ ammunition uses flash suppressed powder. Since most defensive encounters happen in low light, reducing the muzzle flash helps you keep your vision after the first shot.
The 124 grain bullet weight is the middle of the road for 9mm. It offers a good balance of penetration and expansion and tends to shoot close to the sights in most service pistols, which are often regulated for 115 to 124 grain ammunition. That makes it a sensible choice for carry when you want more energy without changing your point of aim very much.
Specifications and Performance
Buffalo Bore lists Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP at 1,300 fps and 461 ft-lbs. Its own chronograph results show 1,330 fps from a Browning Hi Power with a 4.6 inch barrel, 1,304 fps from a Beretta 92F with a 4.9 inch barrel and 1,296 fps from a Glock 19 with a 4 inch barrel.
That is roughly 150 to 200 fps faster than a standard pressure 124 grain 9mm load. The hollow point bullet is designed to expand reliably across that velocity range. Buffalo Bore also publishes exterior ballistic charts for this item on its website.

Field Notes
Check your owner manual before you buy. Many pistol makers allow +P ammunition but advise against +P+, and some warn that it may void the warranty. Buffalo Bore itself says it is up to the buyer to determine whether a load is compatible with a given pistol, and it specifically cautions about +P and +P+ in micro sized pistols.
If your pistol is rated for it, use 9mm +P+ ammo for carry and keep practice to a modest number of rounds. Higher pressure loads increase wear on springs and frames. Shoot enough rounds of Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 124gr JHP to confirm reliable feeding and point of aim before you carry it.
Recoil is noticeably sharper than standard 9mm. Practise follow-up shots with this load so you know how your pistol behaves. For high-volume practice, use standard pressure ammunition with a similar bullet weight.
Hollow point ammunition is restricted or prohibited in a few places, most notably New Jersey for most carry situations. Check the law where you live and where you carry before you buy defensive hollow points.
Buyers must be at least 21 for handgun ammunition from a licensed dealer under federal law, and some states add background checks or other rules. Store ammunition cool and dry.
