Description
The Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed SPR OVIX is a compact, lightweight bolt-action hunting rifle chambered here in 6.5 PRC, with a 20-inch fluted sporter barrel, a radial muzzle brake, and an adjustable composite stock finished in Browning’s OVIX camouflage. At about 6 pounds 12 ounces, it is built for hunters who cover a lot of ground.
Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed SPR OVIX Overview
The X-Bolt 2 is Browning’s updated version of its popular X-Bolt platform, with smoother bolt travel, a new adjustable trigger, and a fully adjustable stock. The SPR configuration is built around a short, handy barrel and a muzzle brake for fast handling in timber and blinds. The Speed finish package pairs Smoked Bronze Cerakote metal with OVIX camo, a pattern Browning designed to work across a wide range of terrain. Photos on this page show the 6.5 Creedmoor version, which shares this rifle’s look with a shorter barrel.
Adjustable Stock
The composite Vari-Tech stock lets you adjust comb height to line your eye up with the scope, change length of pull with internal spacers, and swap between sporter and vertical grip modules. Rubber overmolding on gripping surfaces adds security in rain and snow, and a 1.25-inch Inflex recoil pad softens the kick. A rifle that fits you is easier to shoot accurately and faster on follow-up shots.
Barrel and Muzzle Brake
The 20-inch sporter contour barrel is fluted to save weight, with a fast 1:7 twist that stabilizes long, high-BC 6.5 bullets. A radial-style muzzle brake reduces recoil noticeably, but it also increases noise and blast, so hearing protection is a must. The brake is threaded on, so it can be swapped for a suppressor later; suppressors are NFA items that require an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal in your state.
Trigger and Action
The patent-pending adjustable DLX trigger is set at hunting weight from the factory and breaks crisply. The action is bedded at the recoil lug and action screws, and the barrel is free-floated for consistent accuracy. A short 60-degree bolt lift clears large scopes, the spiral-fluted bolt cycles smoothly, and the top-tang safety with a bolt unlock button lets you unload the chamber with the safety engaged.
Scope Mounting
Browning’s X-Lock mounting system uses four screws per base for a rock-solid connection to the receiver. Bases and rings are specific to the X-Bolt, so be sure to buy compatible mounts. There are no iron sights.
The 6.5 PRC
The 6.5 PRC shoots flatter and hits harder than the 6.5 Creedmoor while staying manageable to shoot, especially with the brake. It is a strong choice for deer, pronghorn, and sheep at longer ranges. Ammunition costs more than common calibers, and magazine capacity is three rounds.
Care and Maintenance
Clean the bore and brake ports regularly, since fouling builds up in the brake. The Cerakote finish resists rust and scratches but still benefits from a wipe-down after wet hunts.
State Laws
A few states regulate muzzle brakes or threaded barrels. Check your local regulations before ordering, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm the rifle is legal where you live.
