Description
The Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed CF 7mm Rem Mag is the carbon fiber barrel version of the Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed, chambered in 7mm Rem Mag. CF here means a 26 inch stainless steel barrel wrapped in carbon fiber, with a threaded muzzle and a Recoil Hawg muzzle brake, a Tungsten Cerakote receiver and a Vari-Tech composite stock in Browning OVIX camo. This listing is UPC 023614861157, Browning item 036034227. It is a long action rifle that weighs about 7 lb 5 oz and holds 3 rounds in a detachable rotary magazine.
Browning X-Bolt 2 Speed CF 7mm Rem Mag Overview
The X-Bolt 2 is the newest version of the Browning flagship bolt action, with a redesigned receiver and bolt. The Speed Carbon Fiber is the top of the Speed line: a carbon wrapped barrel keeps weight down while giving the stiffness of a heavier contour, so the rifle carries like a mountain gun and still holds its zero as the barrel warms up.
Carbon Fiber Wrapped Barrel
Browning wraps a stainless steel barrel in carbon fiber to get a heavy sporter profile without the weight of solid steel. This barrel has a 1:9 twist. Carbon barrels shed heat well, but the wrap can be scratched by careless handling, so use a padded case and avoid laying the rifle on rocks.
Recoil Hawg Brake and Threads
The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 and wears a Recoil Hawg muzzle brake, which Browning says reduces felt recoil by up to 76 percent. Brakes are loud, so always wear hearing protection and warn anyone shooting beside you. You can remove the brake and mount a suppressor, which is an NFA item that requires an approved ATF Form 4 and registration and is not legal in every state. MAG5 does not sell NFA items.
Vari-Tech Adjustable Stock
The Vari-Tech composite stock adjusts for length of pull, comb height and grip angle, so you can set the rifle up for a heavy coat or a summer shirt and get your eye lined up behind the scope. Browning lists a 13 5/8 inch base length of pull, overmolded grip panels and an Inflex 1.25 recoil pad.
Tungsten Cerakote
The receiver and bolt slide wear Tungsten Cerakote, a tough ceramic coating that resists rust, scratches and solvents, so the rifle can handle rain, snow and long days in a truck.
Detachable Rotary Magazine
The detachable rotary magazine sits flush with the stock and feeds smoothly. Spare X-Bolt rotary magazines are easy to find and quick to swap in the field.
The 7mm Rem Mag Cartridge
The 7mm Remington Magnum delivers flat trajectories and strong energy for elk, mule deer and open country hunting, with recoil that most shooters handle well, especially with the muzzle brake.
Mounting a Scope
The X-Bolt family uses its own scope mounting pattern, so buy bases or rings made for the X-Bolt, such as Browning Integrated Scope Mount System, rather than Remington 700 style bases.
Cleaning and Care
Clean the bore after each range session and remove the brake occasionally to clean the threads. Wipe the carbon wrap with a soft cloth and avoid harsh solvents on it.
State Laws
Bolt action rifles are legal in most places, but hunting rules on calibers, seasons and suppressor use vary. Check your state game laws. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
