Description
The Browning Wicked Wing XD 12 GA 3 in #3 load is built for waterfowlers who want a dependable steel shell with reach. XD stands for Extra Distance, and this 3 inch 12 gauge shell sends 1-1/4 oz of #3 steel shot at a rated 1450 feet per second. Number 3 steel is a popular middle ground for ducks, packing more pellets into the pattern than larger sizes while still carrying good energy at decoy ranges. Steel is non-toxic, so this load is legal for waterfowl hunting where lead shot is prohibited.

A good waterfowl shotshell is only part of the equation. Concealment, decoy placement and calling bring birds into range, and patience on the trigger lets them commit. Waiting until birds are cupped and close gives this load its best chance to perform, and it cuts down on crippled birds that sail off out of reach.
Steel shot is harder than lead, so check that older fixed-choke barrels are rated for it before shooting. Most modern shotguns handle steel without issue, but tight chokes such as full or extra full can be damaged by large steel pellets.

Choosing the Right Steel Shot Size
Steel is lighter than lead, so waterfowlers usually go up one or two sizes compared with the lead loads of years past. A 3 steel duck load sits between the hard-hitting number 2 and the denser number 4, giving extra pellet count for mallards, gadwall, wigeon and teal that commit to the decoys. With 1-1/4 oz of shot, the pattern stays full enough to put multiple pellets in the vitals of a fast-moving bird.
Browning has been a respected name in waterfowling for generations, and its ammunition line is built to the same standards as its shotguns. Consistent performance from box to box means you can pattern your gun once and trust the results all season.
Duck hunters who shoot a 12 gauge chambered for 3 inch shells will get the most from this load, especially over decoys in marshes, flooded timber and small water where most shots fall inside 40 yards. Always confirm your chamber length and choke are rated for steel, and follow all federal, state and local waterfowl regulations, including plugged-gun and shell limits.
Store shells in a dry place and keep them in the original box so the lot number stays with them. Before the season, pattern your shotgun at 30 and 40 yards with the choke you plan to hunt with. Non toxic steel shot patterns tighter than lead of the same size, so many hunters open up one choke constriction when switching.
