It weighs about 7 lbs 1 oz and measures 49 3/8 inches overall.
Browning Maxus II Hunter 12ga 28 Overview
The Maxus II is the Browning flagship gas autoloader. It cycles everything from light 2 3/4 inch target loads to heavy magnum loads without adjustment, and its gas system bleeds off extra pressure with heavy loads, which softens recoil. The Hunter is the classic field Maxus II, with a Turkish walnut stock and forearm and a matte black receiver, for hunters who still want wood on an autoloader.
Power Drive Gas System
The Maxus II uses the Power Drive gas system, which vents excess gas from heavier loads so the action cycles smoothly without battering the gun or your shoulder. The magazine holds 4, 2 3/4 shells plus one in the chamber, with the TurnKey plug installed for waterfowl seasons that require a three shot limit. A magazine cut off lets you swap the chambered shell without cycling one from the tube.
Speed Load Plus and Controls
Speed Load Plus is one of the best features on the gun. Push a shell into an empty magazine and it goes straight to the chamber, which is fast when birds are coming. The Lightning trigger has a short, crisp pull for a semi-auto, and the screw on magazine cap keeps the forearm tight.
Barrel and Chokes
The 28 inch barrel has a chrome plated chamber and bore for corrosion resistance and easy cleaning, a 1/4 inch rib and a fiber optic front sight. It uses the Invector-Plus Flush system and ships with full, modified, improved cylinder tubes. Browning sets the gun to shoot 50/50, so the pattern centers on the point of aim.
Stock, Fit and Recoil
The Grade I Turkish walnut stock with a satin finish. Browning lists a 14 3/8 inch length of pull, 1 3/4 inch drop at comb and 2 inch drop at heel. Included shims let you adjust drop and cast to fit your face, and the Inflex 2 recoil pad pulls the comb down and away from your cheek as the gun recoils.
Finish
Matte Black covers the receiver and Matte Blued covers the barrel. Keep the walnut away from heat and wipe it down after wet hunts.
Upland Birds, Waterfowl and More
The Maxus II is a true all around 12 gauge. Use light loads for doves and upland birds, heavier loads for ducks and geese, and slugs or buckshot where your state allows them for deer.
Care and Value
Clean the gas system and piston every few hundred rounds and after wet hunts, and keep the magazine tube lightly oiled. A well kept Maxus II holds its value well on the used market.
State Laws
Semi-auto shotguns are legal in every state, though hunting rules on shot type, gauge and magazine capacity vary, and federal law limits waterfowl guns to three shells. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
