Description
Browning Long Range Pro Hunter 175gr is factory 6.8 Western ammunition designed to make the most of a modern short action magnum. Browning loads a 175 grain Sierra Tipped GameKing boat tail bullet at about 2,835 fps, and packs it 20 rounds to a box.
Who Makes Browning Long Range Pro Hunter 175gr
Browning ammunition is produced under licence by Winchester, part of Olin, in the United States. The two companies developed the 6.8 Western together and introduced it in 2021, alongside rifles from both brands chambered for the new cartridge.
The 6.8 Western is a short action magnum that fires .277 inch bullets, the same diameter as the 270 Winchester. Its key difference is that it is designed around heavy, long, high ballistic coefficient bullets, with a fast twist barrel to stabilise them. That is exactly where Browning Long Range Pro Hunter 175gr fits.
The Long Range Pro Hunter line uses Sierra bullets. Browning describes the line as achieving match grade accuracy in a hunting round, and the 175 grain Tipped GameKing combines a polymer tip and boat tail for a flat trajectory and good energy retention at distance.
Specifications and Performance
Retail listings for Browning Long Range Pro Hunter 175gr 6.8 Western give a muzzle velocity of about 2,835 fps. With a 175 grain bullet, that works out to roughly 3,100 ft-lbs at the muzzle. Browning publishes full ballistics on its product page, and your own velocity will depend on barrel length.
Browning product text refers to both a Tipped GameKing and a Tipped MatchKing in different places. Distributor and retailer listings for item B192500682 consistently describe a Sierra Tipped GameKing, which is the hunting version, and we have listed it that way. The difference matters, because Sierra designs GameKings for hunting and MatchKings for target use.
Compared with a 270 Winchester shooting 130 or 150 grain bullets, the heavier 175 grain bullet retains more energy and drifts less in the wind at long range. The trade-off is slightly more recoil than a standard 270, though it remains milder than most 30 caliber magnums, which makes it pleasant for extended practice sessions.

Field Notes
Use this ammunition only in rifles chambered for 6.8 Western. It is not interchangeable with 270 Winchester, 270 WSM or 6.8 SPC, even though some of these share a bullet diameter.
Heavy 175 grain bullets need the fast twist barrels 6.8 Western rifles are built with, typically 1:7.5 or 1:8. If you own a rifle built on a custom barrel, confirm the twist rate before buying.
For shots at distance, confirm your drops with real impacts at distance, and know your limits in the wind. A good rangefinder and a solid rest matter as much as the cartridge. Confirm your zero with Browning Long Range Pro Hunter 175gr before the season.
The polymer tipped GameKing is designed to expand reliably at a wide range of impact velocities, which suits mixed hunting where shots can be close in timber or long across a canyon. As with any hunting load, shot placement on the vitals is what makes a clean kill.
Store ammunition cool and dry. Rifle ammunition requires buyers to be at least 18, and some states add extra rules for ammunition purchases.
