Description
The Browning BXD Upland 20 GA 2.75 in #5 load is built for upland hunters who need their shot to reach late-flushing roosters. BXD stands for Extra Distance, and this 2.75 inch 20 gauge shell carries 1 oz of nickel plated #5 lead shot. Browning designed the BXD line around high velocity and plated pellets that resist deformation, which helps keep patterns tight and energy high downrange. The result is a load that puts more pellets on a fast-flying bird at the edge of your range.

Browning BXD Upland 20 GA 2.75 in #5 Features
- Focused energy deposit compared with a standard pheasant load, per Browning
- Plated pellets maintain velocity for deeper penetration
- Reliable function in pumps, semi-autos and doubles
- Quality hulls and primers for dependable ignition
Many upland hunters carry two loads in the vest: a lighter one for early flushes over a pointing dog and a heavier, faster one for wild birds that get up at the edge of range. Plated, high-velocity shells like these fill that second role well. They also work on rabbits and squirrels, where a dense pattern of hard pellets helps with quick, clean kills in brush and timber.
Pheasants are tough birds with heavy feathers and strong wings, and late-season roosters often flush wild at longer range. A good pheasant load needs both pellet energy and pattern density to anchor them cleanly, which is exactly where a plated, high-velocity shell earns its keep. A good dog, careful shot selection and quick follow-up shots do the rest.
Wear blaze orange where required, keep track of your hunting partners in the field, and always confirm your target and what lies beyond it before you shoot.

Why Nickel Plated Shot Matters
Soft lead pellets flatten when they are squeezed through the bore and choke, and deformed pellets fly off course, opening up the pattern. Nickel plated shot is harder, so more pellets stay round and travel together. That means a denser pattern at 35 and 40 yards and pellets that keep enough energy to penetrate a tough rooster. Number 5 shot gives a 20 gauge more reach on wild roosters, since each pellet carries more energy than smaller sizes.
Browning has been a respected name in bird hunting for generations, and its ammunition line is built to the same standards as its shotguns. Consistent performance from box to box means you can pattern your gun once and trust the results all season.
Upland hunters who carry a 20 gauge with 2-3/4 inch or longer chambers will get the most from this 20 gauge upland load, including younger hunters and anyone who prefers a lighter gun for long walks. Lead shot is not legal for waterfowl or in some non-toxic zones, so check local regulations before hunting.
Store shells in a dry place in the original box so the lot number stays with them. Before the season, pattern your shotgun at 30 and 40 yards with the choke you plan to hunt with. With hard plated shot, a modified choke often gives an excellent balance for pheasant.
