Browning BL-22 Grade II Satin Nickel Overview
The BL-22 has been made for Browning in Japan by Miroku since 1969, and it is one of the smoothest and most accurate lever action 22s you can buy. It is a rifle people hand down, not trade in. The Grade II adds a satin nickel receiver with scroll engraving, a higher grade of walnut and cut checkering, so it is as nice to look at as it is to shoot.
Short 33 Degree Lever Throw
The highlight of the BL-22 is its short 33 degree lever stroke. You barely move your hand to cycle a round, which makes it fast and easy to run. The trigger travels with the lever, which helps keep your finger from getting pinched.
Exposed Hammer
The BL-22 uses an exposed hammer with a half cock position instead of a crossbolt safety. Teach new shooters to lower the hammer with care and to keep the muzzle in a safe direction, as with any traditional lever gun.
Tubular Magazine
The under barrel tubular magazine loads from the front and holds 15 Long Rifle cartridges, or more of the shorter 22 Long and 22 Short rounds. You can mix all three in the magazine, so it is handy for using up odd boxes or for quiet 22 Short practice.
Grade II Walnut and Engraving
The Grade II stock is satin finished American walnut with cut checkering at 20 lines per inch, and Browning lists a 13 1/2 inch length of pull. The satin nickel receiver carries scroll engraving and a gold colored trigger.
