Description
The Browning AB3 Composite Stalker 270 Win is the Browning AB3 Composite Stalker in 270 Win, a bolt action hunting rifle with a 22 inch matte blued sporter barrel and a matte black composite stock. This listing is UPC 023614398240, Browning item 035800224. It is a long action rifle that weighs about 6 lb 13 oz, measures 42 3/4 in. overall and holds 4 rounds in a detachable double stack box magazine.
Browning AB3 Composite Stalker 270 Win Overview
The AB3 is the Browning answer to hunters who want a dependable, accurate bolt gun at a working price. It shares design ideas with the X-Bolt, including a 60 degree bolt lift and a top tang safety, without the premium features that drive up cost. The Composite Stalker is the no fuss, weatherproof version for hunting in any conditions.
60 Degree Bolt Lift
The short 60 degree bolt lift cycles quickly and lets your hand clear large scope turrets. Browning also uses a large bolt surface area for strength and smooth feeding.
Free Floating Barrel
The 22 inch sporter barrel is free floated, so the stock does not touch it and shift your point of impact as the weather changes. It has a 1:10 twist.
Top Tang Safety and Bolt Lock Override
The top tang safety is easy to reach with your thumb, and the bolt lock override button lets you work the bolt to unload the rifle with the safety on.
Composite Stock
The black composite stock has textured gripping surfaces and will not swell or warp in rain or snow. Browning lists a 13 5/8 inch length of pull.
Detachable Box Magazine
The detachable double stack box magazine holds 4 rounds and makes loading and unloading quick and safe. Spare magazines are available from Browning.
Who the AB3 Fits
The AB3 is a good fit for a first deer rifle, a truck gun or a backup rifle for a hunting camp. It gives up some of the refinements of the X-Bolt, such as the adjustable Feather Trigger and integrated scope mounts, but it keeps the things that matter most for filling a tag: a free floated barrel, a smooth bolt and a reliable detachable magazine. Pair it with a quality scope and good factory ammunition and most owners find it shoots well past typical whitetail distances.
The 270 Win Cartridge
The .270 Winchester has been a favorite of deer and sheep hunters for nearly a century, with a flat trajectory and manageable recoil. Ammunition is easy to find in many bullet weights.
Mounting a Scope
The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases. Make sure any bases or rings you buy list the AB3.
State Laws
Bolt action rifles are legal in most places, but hunting rules on calibers and seasons vary. Check your state game laws. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
