Description

The Browning 1911-22 A1 Compact Walnut is the Browning 1911-22 A1 Compact, a 22 LR pistol with a 3 5/8 inch barrel, a matte black slide and Grade I walnut grips. This listing is UPC 023614072010, Browning item 051803490. It weighs about 15 oz and holds 10 rounds in a single stack magazine.

Browning 1911-22 A1 Compact Walnut Overview

The Browning 1911-22 is built at 85 percent of the size of the original Model 1911, so it has the look, controls and manual of arms of a classic 1911 in a smaller, lighter package. It fires inexpensive 22 LR, which makes it a great way to learn 1911 handling and to practice for a fraction of the cost of centerfire ammo.

A1 Styling and Walnut Grips

The A1 is the classic look of the 1911-22: a matte black slide, fixed A1 style sights and Grade I walnut grip panels. It is the closest the 1911-22 line comes to the look of a World War II era service pistol.

Aluminum Alloy Frame

Browning uses a high strength, lightweight aluminum alloy frame with a stainless steel barrel block. At about 15 ounces it is very light, which makes it easy for new and smaller shooters to hold steady.

California Compliant Version

Browning lists this version as California compliant. Rosters and rules change, so confirm with your dealer that this model can be transferred in your state.

Sights and Shooting

Browning fits fixed A1 style sights with a 4 7/8 inch sight radius. The single action trigger and very light recoil make it easy to shoot small groups, and it is a good pistol for new shooters as well as experienced 1911 fans.

85 Percent Scale

Because the frame and slide are scaled down, the grip fits smaller hands well. Standard 1911 holsters and magazines will not fit, so buy holsters and spare magazines made specifically for the 1911-22.

Ammunition and Reliability

Rimfire pistols are pickier about ammo than centerfire guns. Most owners get the best function with quality 40 grain round nose 22 LR. Keep the gun clean and lightly lubricated, since rimfire fouling builds up fast.

Accessories and Upgrades

Browning and several aftermarket makers offer holsters, spare magazines and grip panels sized for these smaller pistols. A second or third magazine is worth buying right away, since it makes range sessions more fun and lets you practice reloads. Many owners also add a small cleaning kit and a lockable case, which some states require for transport.

State Laws

Some states limit which handguns can be sold, restrict magazine capacity or limit features. Check your state law before you order. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
