Description

BP Helice Electro 12ga exists for one discipline, and understanding that discipline explains every choice in the shell. Helice, also called ZZ bird, throws a spinning plastic propeller with a white witness plate at its center. The target leaves the machine unpredictably, changes direction as the wind catches the blades, and must be knocked down inside a fenced ring. Shooters get two shots and very little time.

Why a Helice Load Is Different

A helice ZZ bird load has to do something a clay target load does not. It must transfer enough energy to separate the witness plate from a tumbling, flexing plastic assembly, and it must do it fast because the target is moving erratically and the ring boundary is close. Speed matters more here than it does on a trap field.

That is why BP Helice Electro 12ga runs at 1300 fps rather than the 1200 fps typical of registered clay loads. The shorter flight time reduces the lead you have to give a target that is actively changing course, and it puts more energy into each pellet at the distances helice is actually shot, which is usually inside 30 yards.

The payload in BP Helice Electro 12ga is held at one ounce rather than the 1-1/8 ounce common in target shells. That is deliberate. Pushing a lighter column faster keeps chamber pressure and recoil manageable, which matters when you are taking two fast shots and need the gun back on target for the second.

BP Helice Electro 12ga Specifications

This is a 1 oz 1300 fps shotshell in a 2-3/4 inch 12 gauge hull, loaded with 7.5 shot and packed 10 rounds to the box, 10 boxes to the case. The small box count is standard for helice, where a competitor fires far fewer shells in a day than a sporting clays shooter does.

Made by Baschieri and Pellagri in Italy, this sits in a line of Italian made competition shotshells that has supplied European helice and ZZ rings for decades. The discipline is far more established in Italy, Spain and Portugal than it is in the United States, and the shells that dominate it come from the same region.

The Gordon System flexible base wad in BP Helice Electro 12ga carries over from the rest of the B and P competition range. At 1300 fps with a full ounce, that recoil absorption earns its place. Helice guns are often heavy over-unders shot with a fast second barrel, and anything that keeps the muzzle settled between shots is worth having.

Practical Notes for American Shooters

Helice rings are still uncommon in the United States and BP Helice Electro 12ga is a specialist shell, so be realistic about how much of this you will shoot. If you have access to a ring, this is the correct ammunition and the 10 round boxes suit the format. If you do not, a high velocity 12 gauge target load like this will absolutely break clays, but you are paying for speed you do not need and taking recoil you did not have to.

Where it does earn its keep outside competition is on late season driven or tower shoots where birds are high and fast, and on any presentation where the target is quartering away hard. The extra 100 fps shortens your lead meaningfully at 35 yards. Just be aware that 7.5 shot at that velocity is noticeably sharper on the shoulder than a standard 1200 fps load.

Check your club rules before bringing BP Helice Electro 12ga shells to a registered clay event. Many disciplines cap velocity or payload, and a 1300 fps shell can fall outside those limits even when the ounce weight is legal. That is a paperwork problem, not a performance one, but it is worth catching before you get to the line.

Helice and ZZ bird competitors who need BP Helice Electro 12ga, and shooters who want a fast, hard-hitting one ounce Italian shell for high driven birds and long quartering presentations.

If you want the same Italian build quality at conventional clay velocities, the Competition Flyer 12ga 7.5 is the registered target option, and the Next 12ga 7.5 Green Core adds a biodegradable wad for clubs that ask for one.

Store BP Helice Electro 12ga the way you would any competition ammunition. Somewhere dry, indoors, out of large temperature swings. Buy by the case when you can so your lot numbers stay consistent through a season, because a fast shell like this one shows velocity variation between lots more readily than a slower load does.
