Description
The Bond Arms Stinger Fireball 38 Special (BASL-FB) is a two-shot, single-action derringer built on Bond’s super-flat 7075 aluminum Stinger frame with a 3 inch matte stainless barrel and the extended B6 resin grip. Bond Arms of Granbury, Texas lists the Fireball as no longer in production, so this is remaining stock.
Bond Arms Stinger Fireball 38 Special Overview
Bond made the Fireball in .22 Magnum, .327 Federal, .380 ACP, 9mm and 38 Special. This listing’s UPC (855959001659) matches the 38 Special version, although the old store image showed a .380 barrel, so the photos here are Bond’s Fireball images and the caliber marking may differ. Bond lists the Fireball at about 14.4 ounces, 5.5 inches long and 4.19 inches tall, with a 7 pound trigger and a trigger guard.
Why They Called It Fireball
Bond says the nickname came from test firing, when the short barrel lit up the range. A 38 Special out of a 3 inch derringer barrel produces a big flash and a sharp report, especially in low light. Expect noticeable muzzle blast and use hearing protection whenever you practice.
The B6 Grip
The B6 is an extended resin grip that gives your whole hand something to hold, which helps a lot with recoil in a 14 ounce gun. It makes the Fireball a little bigger than a standard Stinger, but it is far easier to control than the short-grip models.
Safety and Operation
The Stinger is single action: cock the hammer for each shot. It has a rebounding hammer, retracting firing pins and a cross-bolt safety. Practice cocking and firing under supervision, since the long-established derringer manual of arms is different from a semi-automatic pistol.
Recoil and Ammunition
A 38 Special in a light aluminum derringer recoils hard. Standard-pressure loads are the sensible choice; check Bond’s manual before firing any +P ammunition. Wadcutters and standard 125 to 148 grain loads are pleasant enough for practice. Bond notes that Stinger frames do not accept original Bond barrels, Cyclops barrels or Stinger RS barrels.
Carry Realities
Two rounds and a slow reload make any derringer a last-ditch backup, not a primary defensive gun. A pocket holster that covers the trigger guard is essential, and the flat frame carries well in a front pocket.
State Laws and Ownership
Handgun purchase rules vary by state. Some states require permits, safety certificates or rosters that may not include this model, and carry laws differ widely. Check your local law, and ask your receiving FFL to confirm the transfer before ordering.
