Description

The Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 is a two shot break action derringer built out of stainless steel and very little else. Bond Arms part number BARW, from the Rough Series. Three inches of barrel, twenty ounces on the scale, fixed sights, black rubber grips and a chambering that takes both .45 Colt and 2-1/2 inch .410 shells.

There is no magazine, no slide, no safety to find and nothing to go wrong. You break it open, you load two rounds, you close it. The Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 exists because there are places and clothes where nothing larger is going to be carried, and because a gun made entirely of stainless steel does not mind being forgotten about.

What the Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 gives you

  • 3 inch barrel
  • Stainless steel barrel and frame
  • Break action, no magazine

Why a stainless two shot derringer still sells

  • Stainless steel throughout survives pocket carry and years of neglect
  • A break action shows you two empty chambers at a glance
  • Two chamberings from one gun, so ammunition is never the problem
  • Nothing to rack, no magazine to seat, no safety to find
  • It fits where nothing else will

The Bond Arms BARW .410 chamber is 2-1/2 inch, and this matters

Zanders records the chamber as 2-1/2 inch. Do not load 3 inch .410 shells in it. They will not fit correctly and attempting to force them is how people damage guns and themselves. We stock 3 inch .410 magnum slugs for other firearms; they are not for this one.

Why a slug rather than shot in a 2-1/2 inch 410 chamber pistol

The Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 barrel is chambered for .45 Colt as well as .410, which means it is rifled. Rifling spins a shot charge, and a spinning shot charge opens into a doughnut very quickly indeed. At across-the-room distance the pattern from a three inch rifled barrel is already wider than most people expect and getting worse fast. A slug does not care about spin. Brenneke Close Encounter .410 is the load we hold deepest, over seven hundred boxes, and it is a 2-1/2 inch shell. Sellier and Bellot 2-1/2 inch 000 buck, fifteen pellets is the alternative if you want shot despite all of the above.

45 Colt, and one load to avoid

Underwood 250 grain FMJ and Underwood 250 grain are standard pressure .45 Colt and are what we would put through a Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410. We would not put +P .45 Colt through this gun. A twenty ounce break-action two-shot is not a Ruger Blackhawk, and heavy loads in a light gun are unpleasant at best. If you are not certain what a box is, bring it in and we will read it with you.

What a two shot break action derringer is actually for

A Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 gives you two rounds, fixed sights, a three inch barrel and a twenty ounce stainless frame. Nobody buys one of these as a primary defensive handgun and Bond Arms has never pretended otherwise. It is a pocket gun, a boot gun, a glovebox gun and a backup, and it is built like a bank vault so that it still works after years of being ignored in a drawer. If you want capacity, buy a semi-automatic. If you want something that will not care how it has been treated, this is it.

The rest of the Bond range

The Rowdy XL is the same gun as the Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 with a 3.5 inch barrel and an extended grip. The Bond America 250th in 45-70 is the heavy end of the catalogue. Bond barrels are interchangeable within the frame family and we stock a 3.5 inch .357 Magnum and .38 Special barrel — ask us to confirm fit against your specific frame before you order one.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • 45 Colt and .410 are both SAAMI standardized. See the SAAMI published standards.
  • The .410 chamber is 2-1/2 inch. Three inch shells do not belong in it.
  • A rifled barrel spins shot, so .410 patterns open quickly. Load a slug if the .410 barrel is your plan.
  • Twenty ounces firing .45 Colt recoils sharply. Hold it firmly and start with standard pressure loads.

Buy the Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 as the gun that goes where a real pistol will not, and buy it understanding that two rounds is two rounds. Nothing else in the case is built this solidly for the money, and nothing else will still be working after ten years in a truck console.

MAG5 Firearms is a licensed dealer in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Every firearm ships to your FFL. Ask us about ammunition or barrels for the Bond Arms Rowdy 45 Colt 410 before you order. On a gun with two chamberings and a short chamber, the ammunition question is the one worth getting right first.
