Black Rain Spec+ Fusion 300 BLK Tiffany Overview
The Spec+ Series is the Black Rain way of putting custom-shop looks on a rifle priced closer to a standard production AR. The rifles share the same forged receivers, 4150V barrels and nitrided bolt carriers, and the finish is where they stand apart. The Fusion is the trim, lightweight member of the family, with a 12 inch handguard and MFT Minimalist furniture.
Receiver and Finish
The upper and lower are Spec15 forged aluminum receivers, the strongest common way to make AR receivers. This rifle wears Tiffany Blue Battleworn, a finish distressed on purpose so the edges show darker base color, as if the rifle had seen years of hard use. It is a Cerakote style ceramic coating, so it resists solvents and scratches, and any new wear blends into the pattern.
Barrel and Gas System
The 16 inch 4150V Chromoly barrel is chambered in 300 AAC Blackout, a cartridge designed to fire .30 caliber bullets from an AR-15 with the standard bolt and magazines. Supersonic 110 to 125 grain loads hit harder than 5.56 inside 200 yards, and heavy subsonic loads are quiet behind a suppressor. The rifle runs direct impingement with a .750 low profile gas block under the handguard. It is not adjustable, so it cycles supersonic ammunition best, and some subsonic loads may need a suppressor to run reliably.
Bolt Carrier Group
The Spec15 bolt carrier group has a salt bath nitride finish. It is hard, slick and resists corrosion, and carbon wipes off it more easily than off bare phosphate. Keep it lightly oiled and it will run through long range days without fuss.
Handguard, Trigger and Furniture
The 12 in. M-LOK slim handguard gives room for a light, a sling mount and a forward hand position. The trigger is a mil-spec G.I. unit. It is not as crisp as a match trigger, but it is reliable and easy to upgrade later. The MFT EPG16 grip and MFT Minimalist stock keep weight down and give the rifle a slim, quick-handling profile. The Minimalist stock adjusts for length of pull, though it offers less cheek support than a full-size stock.
Adding Optics
The flat top upper takes a red dot, an LPVO or a magnified scope. The rifle comes without sights, so plan on adding an optic or backup iron sights before your first range trip. A red dot with a 1x to 6x LPVO covers most home defense, training and hunting roles.
Choosing Ammunition
Use supersonic 110 to 125 grain loads for practice and for deer-sized game at short range, and heavy 190 to 220 grain subsonic loads for suppressed shooting. Never load 300 Blackout into a 5.56 rifle. The round can chamber and fire in the wrong gun with dangerous results, so mark your 300 Blackout magazines clearly if you own both.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean and oil the bolt every few hundred rounds and check the gas key screws now and then. Most failures in a direct impingement rifle trace back to a dry bolt, so lubrication matters more than scrubbing.
