Black Rain BRO-22 Hunter OD Green Overview
Black Rain Ordnance is best known for AR rifles and handguns, and the BRO-22 series brings that machining work to a rimfire. The Hunter model pairs the CNC receiver with one of the most adjustable 10/22 pattern stocks on the market, so it fits a twelve year old learning to shoot as well as an adult wearing a winter coat.
Receiver and Trigger
The receiver and trigger housing are CNC machined from 6061 T6 aluminum instead of being cast. Machined parts hold tighter tolerances, and the fit between the barrel, receiver and stock feels solid in the hand. The trigger is set at about 3.5 lb, which is lighter and cleaner than most factory rimfire triggers and helps new shooters hold steady through the shot.
Barrel and Muzzle
The 18 inch barrel is 4150V Chromoly steel. That length gives good velocity with standard and high velocity .22 LR loads while keeping the rifle short enough to carry through brush. The muzzle is threaded and ships with an A2 style thread protector, so it is ready for a rimfire suppressor where one is legal. A suppressor still needs an approved ATF Form 4 and registration, and some states do not allow them at all.
Magpul Hunter X-22 Stock
The Magpul Hunter X-22 stock is the heart of this model. Spacers adjust the length of pull and the comb height, so you can set it for a young shooter now and lengthen it later. The fore end has M-LOK slots for a sling mount or bipod, and the polymer shell shrugs off rain, mud and the inside of a truck bed.
Optics
The receiver carries a Picatinny rail, so mounting a rimfire scope or a red dot is simple. Use a quality pair of scope rings sized for your tube, and pick a scope with parallax set for rimfire ranges, usually 50 to 75 yards, for the sharpest aim at small targets.
In the Field
A .22 LR rifle this light is a natural choice for squirrel and rabbit hunting, pest control around a farm, and plinking at steel. Check your state regulations for small game, since some areas set rules on rimfire use, hunting hours and blaze orange.
Choosing Ammunition
Most rimfire semi-autos run best on high velocity round nose ammunition. Try a few brands, because accuracy and reliability can change from one load to the next. Bulk packs make practice affordable, and match grade rounds help you see what the rifle can really do on paper.
Cleaning and Care
Rimfire ammunition is dirty, so clean the bolt face, chamber and extractor every few hundred rounds. A light coat of oil on the bolt and a dry bore are all most shooters need. Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or case, with the magazine and ammunition kept separate.

Before You Buy
Federal law requires this rifle to ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and you must pass a background check. The product photo shows the Flat Dark Earth version, because Black Rain and our distributors have not yet published photos of the OD Green stock. The rifle is identical apart from the stock color. Prices for billet rimfire rifles run higher than basic factory .22s, so you are paying for the machining, the trigger and the Magpul stock.
