Description

The 140 grain Hybrid Target is the bullet that made the 6.5 Creedmoor a competition cartridge, and it remains the middle of the Berger range in every sense. The Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr Hybrid Target is the sensible default if you are not sure which weight you need.

The Middle of the Range and Why That Matters
Berger four match loads in the 6.5 Creedmoor sit on a clear ladder: 130 grain for slower twist barrels and shorter distance, 140 for general competition, 144 for wind at long range, and 153.5 for the far end. The Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr Hybrid Target is the rung most shooters should start on, and a great many never leave it.
At 2750 feet per second with a G7 ballistic coefficient of 0.311 it splits the difference honestly. It shoots flatter than the 144 and 153.5 grain loads inside 600 yards, and it holds up better in wind than the 130. Neither advantage is dramatic; the point is that nothing about it is a compromise you will notice at ordinary match distances.
The Hybrid ogive blends tangent and secant geometry so the bullet keeps most of a secant nose efficiency while tolerating the seating depth variation that factory ammunition necessarily carries. Berger also holds meplat uniformity and jacket concentricity tighter on the match line than on general production.
Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr Hybrid Target Specifications
Muzzle energy is 2351 foot-pounds, and at 400 yards the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr Hybrid Target still carries 1486 with 2186 feet per second on the clock. Those are unremarkable numbers in isolation and exactly the point: the 6.5 Creedmoor was never about power, it was about a high-BC bullet leaving at a moderate velocity from a short action with mild recoil.
Twist rate is 1:8 or faster, which is the standard 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. A 1:9 will not reliably stabilize a 140 grain bullet and the vertical dispersion at distance will tell you. Maximum cartridge overall length is 2.825 inches, so it feeds from standard short-action and AICS magazines.
Open tip match describes how the bullet is made, not what it does on impact. The hollow point is a byproduct of drawing the jacket base-forward to put the most concentric material at the nose. This is a target bullet and it is not designed to expand.

Honest Notes on This Load
Buy the Berger 6.5 Creedmoor 140gr Hybrid Target if you shoot F-Class, PRS or long-range steel and want one load that does everything competently. It is the correct starting point for a new 6.5 Creedmoor shooter and a perfectly good ending point too.
Move to the 144 or 153.5 grain Long Range Hybrid only if your matches are decided past 800 yards, where the higher ballistic coefficient earns real ground on wind.
Skip it for hunting. This is a match bullet with no expansion design. The 135 grain Classic Hunter or the 156 grain Elite Hunter are the correct choices for game in this cartridge.
Further out: the 144gr Long Range Hybrid Target and 153.5gr Long Range Hybrid Target. For a 1:10 barrel, the 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical. Berger publishes complete 140gr ballistic data on its own site.
