Description
The Bergara Wilderness Sierra 308 Win 20 is a sporter-style bolt-action hunting rifle chambered in 308 Winchester, with a 20-inch fluted barrel, a muzzle brake, and a woodland camo stock with an adjustable comb. It is part of Bergara’s Wilderness Series, built for hunters who want a rifle that is accurate, comfortable, and ready to customize.
Bergara Wilderness Sierra 308 Win 20 Overview
Bergara, based in Spain with a strong presence in the United States, built its name on precision barrels before it began building complete rifles. The B-14 action at the heart of the Sierra is a two-lug design with a sliding plate extractor and a coned bolt nose for smooth feeding, and it shares the Remington 700 footprint, so scope bases, triggers, and many aftermarket parts fit. Bergara backs the Sierra with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee. The barrel and action are finished in grey Cerakote, which resists rust and scratches in bad weather.
Fluted Barrel and Muzzle Brake
The 20-inch barrel is made from 4140 chrome-moly steel in a No. 5 taper and fluted to save weight while helping it cool. It has a 1:10 twist, a good match for common 150 to 180-grain 308 hunting bullets. The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 and comes with Bergara’s Omni muzzle brake, which cuts recoil noticeably but adds a lot of noise and blast, so always wear hearing protection. The threads also accept a suppressor, which is an NFA item requiring an approved ATF Form 4 and state legality.
Stock and Fit
The Bergara sporter stock is finished in woodland camo and features an adjustable comb so you can line your eye up with a scope, plus a more vertical grip for comfortable trigger control. Quarter-inch spacers let you tune length of pull. A well-fitted rifle is easier to shoot accurately from field positions, which is where hunting shots actually happen.
Magazine System
Bottom metal with an M5-style cutout accepts AICS-pattern detachable magazines as well as M5 floorplates. The rifle ships with a 4-round magazine. Being able to use widely available AICS magazines is a big plus if you want higher-capacity mags for range work or competition.
Optics Mounting
There are no iron sights, so you will need a scope. Because the action uses the Remington 700 footprint, scope bases and rails are easy to find, including 20 MOA options for long-range shooting. A quality 3-9x or 4-16x scope is a good match for a 308 hunting rifle.
Finish and Weight
At about 7.4 pounds before optics and 40 inches long, the Sierra is a manageable all-day carry rifle. The Sniper Grey Cerakote on the metal stands up to rain, snow, and rough handling.
The 308 Winchester
The 308 Winchester is one of the most versatile hunting cartridges ever made. It is effective on deer, black bear, and elk at sensible ranges, ammunition is widely available and affordable, and recoil is manageable, especially with the brake installed.
State Laws
A few states regulate muzzle brakes, threaded barrels, or magazine capacity. Check your local regulations before ordering, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm the rifle is legal where you live.
