Description
The Bergara Wilderness HMR 22 Creedmoor is a bolt-action rifle that bridges the gap between a hunting rifle and a match gun. This configuration (Bergara model B14S3814, UPC 043125001408) pairs a 20-inch threaded barrel with Bergara adjustable HMR stock and molded mini-chassis, with Sniper Gray Cerakote metal, an Omni muzzle brake and a Wilderness camo stock with black webbing.
Bergara Wilderness HMR 22 Creedmoor Overview
HMR is short for the hunting and match rifle concept, and that is exactly how this design shoots. An aluminum mini-chassis molded into the stock gives the action repeatable bedding, and the barrel is fully free-floated for consistent accuracy shot after shot. Bergara backs the rifle with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee with quality factory ammunition.
Adjustable Cheekpiece and Length of Pull
The stock has an adjustable cheekpiece and length of pull, so you can set a proper cheek weld behind a large scope and fit the rifle to your frame or your hunting clothes. A vertical-style grip keeps your trigger finger moving straight to the rear, and the flat fore-end rides steady on bags, packs and barricades.
Flat-Shooting 22 Creedmoor
The 22 Creedmoor necks the 6.5 Creedmoor case down to fire long, high-BC .224 caliber bullets at very high velocity. It shoots remarkably flat with light recoil, making it a favorite for coyotes and other varmints at long range, and with heavy-for-caliber bullets many hunters also use it on deer-sized game where legal.
Smooth B-14 Action
The B-14 action uses a two-lug bolt with a sliding extractor and a coned bolt nose for smooth feeding from the AICS-style detachable magazine. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Remington 700 short-action bases, and the threaded muzzle comes with the Omni brake installed, which also unscrews to accept a suppressor.
Setup Tips
Mount a quality scope on a 20 MOA base so you have plenty of elevation for distant targets. A first focal plane scope in the 4-16x to 6-24x range is a good match. Set the comb so your eye lines up with the scope without lifting your head.
Practice in the Field
Once zeroed at 100 yards, confirm your drops at several distances with the exact load you plan to use. Practice from prone, from a tripod and off a pack so field positions feel familiar long before the season starts.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean the bore with a quality copper solvent every few range sessions, wipe the bolt and lugs, and put a light coat of grease on the locking lugs. Check action screw torque once in a while.
Safe Storage at Home
Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
