Description
The Bergara Premier Barreled Action is a premium, American-made barreled action for builders who want Bergara accuracy in the stock or chassis of their choice. This configuration (UPC 043125065615) is chambered in 6.5 PRC with a 20-inch 416 stainless steel barrel in a No. 4 contour, a 1:8 twist and a threaded 5/8×24 muzzle with thread protector, and it weighs about 4.0 pounds.
Bergara Premier Barreled Action Overview
Bergara’s Premier actions are machined in the USA from 416 stainless steel and built to fit most Remington 700 style stocks and chassis. The Bergara Premier Barreled Action pairs that action with a precision Bergara barrel, so you can build a custom-grade rifle without waiting months for a gunsmith. It accepts Remington 700 style triggers and scope bases with an 8-40 screw pattern, which opens up a huge range of aftermarket parts.
Premier Action Features
The action has an enlarged bolt handle for positive control with gloves, a spiral-fluted bolt body that runs smoothly and sheds debris, a dual ejector and a sliding plate extractor for reliable case handling. The raw stainless finish is ready to wear as-is or to be Cerakoted to match your build.
No. 4 Contour Barrel
The No. 4 contour, used on Bergara’s Canyon rifle, is fluted for an excellent blend of weight savings and stiffness, making it a smart choice for a lightweight hunting build that still shoots tight groups. Bergara barrels are known for consistent drilling, honing and rifling, which is why so many custom builders choose them.
Why Build on the 6.5 PRC
The 6.5 PRC drives long 6.5mm bullets roughly 200 to 300 feet per second faster than the 6.5 Creedmoor while fitting a short magnum bolt face, so you get extended reach for deer, sheep and steel targets with moderate recoil.
Building Your Rifle
Choose a stock or chassis inletted for a Rem 700 short magnum action, then add a compatible trigger, bottom metal or a detachable magazine system, and a quality base and rings. Have a qualified gunsmith confirm headspace and function once everything is assembled, then torque the action screws to the stock maker’s specs before you zero.
Break-In and Load Development
Many shooters fire a short break-in routine on a new barrel, cleaning every few shots for the first string, then settle into a regular schedule. After that, try two or three quality factory loads or a handful of powder charges if you reload, and let the targets tell you what this barrel prefers. Record velocity with a chronograph so your ballistic app matches what you see at distance.
Choosing a Stock or Chassis
For a lightweight hunting rifle, a carbon or fiberglass hunting stock keeps weight down and points naturally. For long-range and competition work, an aluminum chassis with an adjustable cheek rest, ARCA rail and folding buttstock gives more stability and adjustability. Either way, a quality bedding job or a solid chassis interface is the foundation of consistent accuracy.
