Description
The Bergara HMR Carbon Wilderness PRC is a B-14 bolt-action rifle that blends Bergara’s adjustable HMR stock with a CURE carbon fiber barrel for long-range accuracy at a manageable carry weight. This configuration (Bergara model B14SM359CF, UPC 043125016181) has a 24-inch threaded barrel with an Omni muzzle brake, a Sniper Gray Cerakote action and a woodland camo stock with a SoftTouch finish.
Bergara HMR Carbon Wilderness PRC Overview
The HMR, short for Hunting and Match Rifle, is one of Bergara’s most respected designs thanks to its ergonomics and consistent accuracy. This version swaps the heavy steel barrel for a CURE carbon fiber barrel, trimming weight from the front of the rifle while keeping the stiffness that long shots demand. Bergara backs it with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee with quality factory ammunition.
Extra Reach From the 6.5 PRC
The 6.5 PRC drives long 6.5mm bullets roughly 200 to 300 feet per second faster than the 6.5 Creedmoor, extending effective range on deer, sheep and mule deer with moderate recoil. It fits a short action, and the 1:8 twist stabilizes heavy 140 to 156 grain bullets.
Adjustable HMR Stock With Mini-Chassis
The molded stock carries an internal aluminum mini-chassis for a rock-solid bedding surface. The cheek riser and length of pull both adjust, so you can set a proper cheek weld behind a big scope. A flat-bottom fore-end rides well on packs and bags, and multiple sling studs leave room for a bipod and sling at the same time. The woodland camo pattern with a SoftTouch coating stays grippy in rain and snow.
Carbon Fiber Barrel and Omni Muzzle Brake
The CURE barrel wraps a steel liner in carbon fiber for rigidity and faster cooling between shots. It is threaded 5/8×24 and ships with the Omni muzzle brake, and the same threads accept a suppressor. The one-piece B-14 action uses a two-lug bolt with a sliding plate extractor and is drilled and tapped for standard Remington 700 short-action bases.
Setup and Optics Tips
A 20 MOA one-piece base gives you more elevation travel for long shots, and quality rings keep the scope locked down. A first focal plane scope in the 4-16x to 6-24x range is a great match. Zero at 100 yards, then confirm your drops at several distances with the exact load you plan to hunt with.
Practice in the Field
Shoot from prone, from a tripod and off a pack so field positions feel familiar long before the season starts. Learn to read wind at a few distances, and keep a simple data card with your drops taped to the stock or tucked in a pocket.
Choosing Ammunition
Test two or three quality hunting loads with bonded or monolithic bullets and choose the one that groups best from your barrel. Buy enough of a single lot to sight in, practice and hunt with the same ammunition all season.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean the bore with a quality copper solvent every few range sessions, wipe the bolt and lugs, and apply a light coat of grease to the locking lugs. Check action screw torque once in a while, and wipe the carbon barrel with a damp cloth rather than harsh solvents.
Safe Storage at Home
Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
